The amount of pro-caps on this site is astounding to me. So much so, I went and tried out Oekaki for the first time in order to vent. (Not a bad program. The pressure sensitivity could be better.)
Here I've doodled the infamous killer whale, Tilikum- without a ref, mind you. The recent pictures of him I've seen scare me. This animal is so close to death, and no one seems to care. Not only his collapsed dorsal and lack of teeth concern me, but the amount of blubber he has lost by simply logging at the water's surface is insane. Do some research. Logging is not napping. Cetaceans don't sleep like that.
Tilikum is not a healthy animal. No cetacean in captivity may be considered healthy (except for maybe Lolita, Morgan, and the Russian captives).
These are animals that can swim a hundred miles in a day, always with their families- hunting, socializing, playing together. In captivity, they are forced into artificial pods based on the management's decisions. They are inbred, drugged, and forced into parenthood far too early. (Heck, the original Baby Shamu, Kalina, was still a baby when SeaWorld impregnated her!)
Over half of the United States' population is now against orca captivity. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure SeaWorld has done a fair amount of conservation in their rescue program. However, their rescue program should be their only program. End the captive killer whale breeding and retire them to seaside sanctuaries.
