The sun was setting over the Ark's horizon. The group of Spartans was still in the middle of the steamy desert. Cassy was on Tin's back, her eyes heavy. Raptor had a hand just behind her back, just in case she passed out. Kiara was walking silently behind him. Missy and Rebecca were near the back of the pack, grumbling about sore feet and empty stomachs. Grif and Simmons were silent. They were obviously bored of the empty desert landscape.
Master Chief and Washington were at the front, a good ten feet ahead of the others. As they passed under the darkening cliffs, Chief noticed something at the top of the cliff. A dark shape was standing stock still, but he could see two crimson dots glowing in the fading light. Something was watching them.
It was too large to be a Grunt or a Jackal, but too small to be any large Covenant species. Chief frowned and paused. The creature turned and vanished.
"Oh, Johnny boy!" came Missy's jeering voice. "You see something?" Chief scowled at the young Spartan.
"No," he said flatly. Rebecca strode up to him, Missy at her side. She smirked.
"Orly?" she said. Chief didn't answer, he just walked off, leaving the two young Spartans laughing behind him.
On the top of the cliff, though, the creature had returned to her post. She was a large brown wolf. On both sides of her face were strange tattoos, along with several symbols running down both shoulders. She watched the Spartans walk past her post, a frown on her face. After a few moments, she smiled to herself.
She reached up to her neck where a thin strip of metal was hidden in her fur. She pressed a button on the metal and a voice rang through.
"Agent 117? You have a repot?" it said. Agent 117 smiled.
"Yes, Sir. I have found them."
My Cainid character, Neera, watching a group of Spartans. She's also called Agent 117. That's just her code name for when she's doing her spy work. Like now. I wonder why she needed to find them?
