So what happened was effectively what happened to Tris in Divergent. Chained was under a simulation and Portalis couldn't reach him, was panicking, and shot him in the head by accident.

I've been trying to work out a way that will (within reason) bring him back from the dead. I haven't decided, but I have been toying with the idea of turning him into a cyborg.

I totally should. It's also ironic because in a part of their past, Chained is a medic and Portalis is an engineer X3
