So my intention was to do some realistic shading but forget that, this yields a better result. Eh and lineless isn't my thing, apparently.

You're so lucky to own a dog (and a beautiful one at that). All I have is two cats and one has a drooling problem X3 Hopefully I drew him properly, realistic marking are not easy though.
