help please?

Postby _caramel » Mon Feb 17, 2014 12:45 pm

welll, i've been wanting to improve my human drawings lately, and it's so hard.
i was wondering if there'd be anyone here on cs who'd be willing to lend a hand, it would be greatly appreciated ^^
p.s. i'm also working on it in traditional art if that helps :)

wow, i didn't expect anyone to offer help so fast! i tend to struggle mainly with drawing lips and hands, and although i cope just fine with separate elements of a human, i struggle with putting them together >.< do you have any tips on how i can draw these things, and perhaps make a full body drawing look proportional? thank you so much ^^

it's really hard to explain something without a drawing, and my oekaki hates me, so here's a lovely tutorial i've found. it's not by me, but the link is here. it's by lamorghana on deviantart. c:

basically, the lip is composed of two separate parts. lips can form many different shapes, so it's important to study a reference. with hands, try looking at your own hand, sketch with the other, or practice cartoon styles that slowly become more realistic. that's what i do sometimes.

and as for full body proportions, humans are, on average, about eight 'heads' high. a 'head' measurement is perfect for all kinds of proportions! draw the head, then take that size and lightly sketch seven more ovals that size underneath. the waist and hip line are different for any human you draw, so study body types. whether they're long-legged, curvy, full-hipped, etc. it all depends on the character or person. the shoulders should come about about two-thirds of a 'head' out from the side of the head you've drawn. here's another nice tutorial for that, from realcolorwheel.com

once you've got the proportions, fill it in with curves, and lines that make it look much more human-like. i hope this helps a little bit! c:
