"You treat me as though I've asked for this body..."
So this is another aspect of the Onega's religion. if a Onii (single Onega--> Oh-nee) is believed to have committed sin in its past life, it will be reincarnated in the spirit of a bat; where the Onii will fashion darker/colder colors and bat wings rather than soft natural colors and wings.
All Onii are granted a special necklace at birth to match the orbs of their tail. These colors vary from red, green, blue, and clear glass--each corresponding to the elements fire, earth, water, and air. If a Onsii (newborn Onega--> on-see) is born and does not receive a pendant at birth, within a few hours the orbs on their tail will turn black and the Onsii will either live a poorly life of shame or it will die.
a harsh ritual many are against, but fear too much to speak out against it in worry of having their own pendants taken away and leaving them in the same situation as sin-born Onsii.
The removal of a Onii's or deprival of a Onsii's pendant is a sign to show disrespect or betrayal. in the case of an Onsii, the baby having been a sinner in a past life carries into their next life, practically predicting and labeling them a sinner (which isn't always true, this is just the Onega's belief).
For a Onii, if their pendant is taken away its usually a result of speaking out against the Onega's belief or directly working against it. when their pendants is removed--just the same as a Onsii's--their tail orbs will blacken and they will be shamed by the majority of the population.
Working on a name for this dear Her name is Kumi; a name given to her by those who helped birth her. the name is broken into two parts-- "Ku" from the work "black" in Japanese, and "mi" from the work "sin" also in Japanese. Her mother ha no say-so in the name since Kumi was a sin-born Onsii; if she had spoken out, her pendant would have been revoked.
