"What did I do?"

Postby The wild one » Mon Jun 07, 2010 10:40 am

A friend of mine recently adopted an "untrainable" german shepherd from the shelter and she asked me to help her train him.
When I got there, he ran up to me, all happy like. Then, bit me hard on the arm. I grabbed him by the scruff and pinned him on his side. This is the look he gave me. I didn't hurt him(well, his ego and pride might be hurt).

Ah, you did the right thing ^^ you cant let animals think they are dominate. Whenever my dogs do that, (especially the great dane) I push them onto their side (with great force) and grab their necks (not hard softly, like tugging at the fat XD) So, yeah. Great drawing by the way^^

I agree with Okami.
Play bite are meh, okay. But hard bite, no no.
You need to defend yourself. You need to show them who's boss.
Or else you'll be bitten all the time.
That's even how professionals train some dogs when they bite them.
Flick on the nose, and a mean 'no' if soft.
Pin on the ground, and a mean 'no, bad dog' if real hard.
I even have to do that sometimes. Good grief, I'm a dog trainer.
Almost everyone who has a dog gets bit. Play bite or not.
Most of the ones who don't, their dog doesn't have any teeth.
It's not mean, you were just defending yourself, and saying who's boss; which is good.
You did the right thing, yes. You can't let them think they're in charge.

My dog bit me so I bit him on the ear. It shows them who's boss.
