To me this looks really bad, any suggestions? The main thing I have trouble with is thick smooth lines, and the background, but mainly smooth lines that are thick.

It looks great! I don't know why your saying it's bad..? IM a artist but not on cs, nice shading! Trust me it looks good with the dark back ground, So life like!
