The harsh wind dashed around, causing the thick fog to lessen a little. Now the fog is not as thick, you can make out the shape of a sandy-coloured creature. It's eyes are friendly, yet determind. It's paws, once soft, are firm with walking so far. It's mouth is curved in a smile, and it's tail held proudly, but you can tell the hope is almost over. A small whimper escapes from the mysterious animal before you, and it shuts it's tired eyes tightly, staring up at the bitter-night sky.
You hear it seem to howl forlornly. Her {you decide it is a girl} once beautiful sandy-coat now has grey tints here and there. It's ear droop dejectedly, as no one replies to it's desperate calls into the wilderness. A single tear runs down her matted pelt, and she turns towards you. Suddenly, she yelps, drawing back, as she notices you crouching not too far away. Your eyes widen as she tries to run, but stumbles, and falls. Tearfully, she tries to struggle up, but all her efforts are in vain. You notice scars around her legs that you hadn't seen before. Her sad, blue eyes warm your heart, and you take a small shuffle towards the hurt creature. She growls in warning, her slender shape in tatters, as if warning you not to approach her. However, you realise her peril, and take another movement forward.
The dark green grass around her is beginning to turn a sickening shade of blood red. Blood red. With a gasp, you realise the trickling red liquid is her own blood. The bedraggled creature howls again, but quieter, as if she is losing her strength. Horrified, you rush forward, only to be greeted by a paw full of claws. You stay just out of harms way, thinking hard. How can you save the poor creature?
