Thanks everyone!
This picture concept and theme is a little darker than my normal style, but it's the most important part of Lumiere's story.
Please note, this picture is not meant to condone or bash animal testing, it's simply part of his story. I made up unrealistic details, so it's way closer to science fiction than normal fiction. Even though the experiment in his story will be based off real-life research, most of the details will be fabricated to add drama. There are also other rats in this story, namely, Lumiere's mother and little brother, but I'll get around to them later.
Thanks Sketchy, I guess that the rat does look normal size. Maybe what's making them too small is the fact that I used elbow gloves. Adding a border to the gloves wasn't right for this picture because it made the hands seem too.. Human, and it messed up the overall flow of the picture by being too similar to the tail.
It was really funny to read your comments about "Nuuuu! run away!" And "I want to snatch him away and hug him close." Thanks for that, I'm glad that Lumiere get some sympathy from all of you.
And yes, I'm very proud of my rat anatomy here. If you look through my gallery, you can see that my fursona has a slightly deviated head shape, it's part of her, and part of my style. But see here? I CAN draw realistic anatomy!
There was a lot of emotion for me while drawing this, I'm not sure I was able to communicate quite the level of turmoil going on, but the clinical frozen image seems to communicate something. I like it.
Another thing I noticed was the eery similarity to a past drawing of mine
Light of the North. In that it is a white furry animal, suspended in space, while curving its body towards a bright and colorful light source. Strange how that worked out.
