Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness. With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.
Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.
Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.
Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.
Lionfish sure are gorgeous, but they're terribly invasive, and there's even a massive hunting season for them!
To win this trotter, tell me about another invasive fish species!

Prompt: The walking catfish is native to Southeast Asia, it is able to "walk" on dry land using its fins and tail to wriggle its way from one body of water to another. The species was introduced in Florida in the 1960s, and has been spotted in California, Nevada, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Georgia. Because of its mobility, this opportunistic feeder finds its way into stock ponds and feasts on the fish being raised there. Fish farmers have been forced to place fencing around their ponds to keep the fish from eating up their entire stock.

Prompt:
Believe it or not, goldfish! Originally native to Asia, they've become an invasive species throughout the US and parts of Canada. Feral goldfish are hardy enough to survive bitterly cold winters and often out-compete native species for food and habitat. Larger specimens can reach the size of a football and live 20+ years.

Prompt: Mosquitofish, native to the Mississippi River basin, have been introduced worldwide in an effort to control mosquito populations. These small fish, which do eat mosquito larvae, were first introduced in the early 1900s in areas looking for easy mosquito control. Unfortunately, where their food was readily available, their populations grew out of control and outcompeted native species. In some areas, those native species were actually better at controlling mosquito populations than the mosquitofish, and the presence of the invasive fish has led to an increase in mosquito populations. My favorite part about this terrible tale? In 2019, researchers developed a robotic largemouth bass to frighten mosquitofish hoping that it would decrease their fertility. Results of the study were promising!

Prompt: Oriental weather loach is an invasive species that threatens native species due to it's fast reproduction rate and ability to out compete native fish for resources. The females can lay up to 100, 000 eggs per life time. They are extremely hardy, eat native fish off spring and can even breathe air.

Prompt: The Northern Snakehead is a fish that's been identified as invasive in many of the US states. They're able to survive in cold environments with low oxygen, and are capable of actually jumping on land to travel short distances between bodies of water. Because of their incredibly adaptability and aggressive nature, they're a real threat to many local species of fish (larger adults will even target birds and small mammals!).

Prompt: A very specific example, the Lake Trout is considered invasive in Yellowstone Lake in Yellowstone National Park. They were introduced to the lake at one point and now they're eating all of the other native trout species. Officials in Yellowstone actually go out to catch Lake Trout and puncture the swim bladders so they can't dive so they end up being eaten by other fish or animals. This way the Lake Trout don't go to waste and actually end up supporting the native ecosystem. Ironically, Lake Trout elsewhere are usually the ones at risk because of climate change, slow growing, and late to mature.

Prompt:
Tilapia. They breed and multiply extremely quickly in waters they are introduced to. In Singapore, my home country, they are used to control mosquito populations. They have also filled up a pond in my former school, and no one knows how the first tilapias got there in the first place.
