Writing about the kitten!
For as long as she could remember, she had been having this reoccurring dream from time to time. In it, she would find herself in a garden, appearing meticulously maintained and full of plants and flowers of all kinds. Every kind of plant she knew of, as well as several she had never seen outside of the dream, were present somewhere in the garden. It was enormous, and even in all the times she had this dream, she had never been able to explore all of it. She would take different paths whenever she had the dream- or at least, she thought she did?- but still, she had never found an exit to the garden. As far as she knew, she had never actually come across another living being in these dreams, making her wonder how exactly the garden always looked so perfectly maintained. Perhaps it was just part of the dream. After all, it was all made up by her imagination, right?
She always started in the same place, a small clearing in what she assumed was the center of the garden. There were several trees around her at an equal distance apart, each marking a path. The paths were lined with bushes and flowers, and though she had researched the flowers in case there was some kind of symbolism in their meanings or something, she had not found any evidence to suggest there was. It was seemingly just completely random.
Thus far, each path had been much the same. A long, winding path, surrounded by tall bushes that almost made the garden seem like a maze, and lots of flowers. None of them really led anywhere that seemed particularly remarkable, and none of them had any specific features that differed from the other paths. At least, if there were, she had never wandered far enough in to find them. Of course, it was rather difficult to tell exactly how far she had gone in any given direction in the dream. She never seemed to think to try to keep track of time while in the garden. She simply walked along a path, looking around, until she eventually woke up.
It was a rather peaceful dream, if a bit confusing, so she did not mind it much. It was certainly better than having a reoccurring nightmare or something, at any rate. At least she got to see a bunch of beautiful flowers along the way. Though, she could not help but feel somewhat curious about the garden from her dreams. There was a part of her that sometimes wondered… Was there a real place like this somewhere in the world? Or was it truly just a figment of her imagination? While she had certainly never seen or heard of a place like this, even having asked visiting storkatten who were travelers if they had come across anything like it during their journeys, everything in the dream just seemed so real at the time. Then again, most dreams felt real while you were asleep, right?
She supposed she would never find out for sure. After all, she was not very interested in traveling herself. Aside from her curiosity about the garden, there was not much outside of the colony she lived in that she felt any strong desire to visit and explore. She had everything she needed here, and she did not see any need to leave the safe, comfortable life she had built for just a mere possibility of finding something that might not even exist. All searching for it while awake would likely do was leave her frustrated from searching all over for the garden and never finding it.
Besides, even if she did not actually choose when she had the dream, it happened frequently enough that she was able to explore it at least somewhat often. And really, how likely was it that there was actually some kind of secret there for her to discover? She was not some hero or destined to go on some quest or anything like that. The garden was simply a dream; the idea that there could be anything more to it than that was like something out of a storybook. A fantasy.
