Cat Name: Daybreak
Gender: agender (xe/xem/xyr)
Rank: outsider
Clan: The Moonlight Assembly
Age: 33 moons
Prompt:
- The Sun-Blaze heat was blistering this time of year, but Daybreak was coping. Xe was on a water patrol, satchels of moss hung on the backs of each cat trekking through the sand. The path was well worn and memorized by this point, and as the oasis peered into view the patrol raced towards it, eager to take a break from their journey. ``Remember, we have to be back before Sun-High, okay? Don't goof off, the clan needs us``, Daybreak calls out, removing the satchel from xyr back and removing the moss that was stuff inside. Xe placed the moss into the cool water. The rest of the patrol did the same, with some wading into the water while waiting for the dry moss to absorb the water. Daybreak did the same, laying down in the shallow edge's of the pool.
Xe rolled in the water, soaking xyr pelt before standing up and shaking off, spraying water around xem. Xe wadded out of the water and gathered up all xyr moss, cramming it back into xyr satchel and slinging it over xyr back, water dripping from the bag. ``Hurry up! It'll be Sun-High by the time we get back if we don't leave now. Gather up everything and meet me by the palm``, the golden cat ordered, padding into the shade of the looming tree. The patrol gathered around xem, trying to huddle under the shade of the tall, old tree.
The patrol trotted off into the desert yet again, Sun blazing down on the cats.
--------------
The Sun had set and the clan was still and quiet. Daybreak crept out of the warrior's den, peering around until deciding the coast was clear and padded out of camp as quietly as they could, traveling up north. The wind blew straight though Daybreak's thin pelt, the absence of the Sun chilling the night's air considerably.
Daybreak slid into the medicine den, pulling xyr satchel down and onto the cool floor. A white cat ran over, inspecting the bag. ``Oh Stars above thank you Daybreak! Usually the stream offers us enough water, but with the drought it's been rough. I really appreciate this``, the white cat purred, rubbing up against Daybreak. The golden cat lets out a mrrow of laughter, purring in return. ``It's nothing, Fennec, seriously. My clan won't mind some missing moss.`` Fennec frowns, looking up to Daybreak with wide eyes. ``You... You stole this from your clan? Daybreak, I can't take this from you, or your clan!``
Daybreak looked down and away from Fennec, grabbing the bag and moving to the dried up pool in the den. ``It's not technically stealing if I never intended to give it to my clan, I'm the one who collected this water`` xe says, opening the bag and dropping the moss into the pool. It wasn't much, but it would help. Fennec frowns and walks over to Daybreak, looking up at xem. ``What will Lionsun say if she finds out about this- about us? This can't go on forever. Where will you go if she exiles you? Stars know you can't come here, Coyote would claw you before letting you join.``
Daybreak sighs and licks Fennec behind the ear, lingering for a moment next to him before leaving, the wind ruffling xyr fur. ``It'll be fine, she won't suspect her own deputy. I'll be back in two days with more supplied, okay? Be safe.`` Daybreak left silently, creeping out of the rogue camp and back to xyr own clan, cursing the bitter wind.
