Name: Shatter
Name Meaning: To shatter is to break or cause something to break suddenly and violently into small pieces.
Gender: Male
Prompt:

The pumpkins were back again. This time every year, they reappeared, placed by humans decorating their yards. Not much later they would be followed by wooden witches' feet sticking up out of the ground, plastic skeletons of every creature imaginable, from massive horses nearly as tall as a house to life-size human skeletons and the much smaller ones of dogs, cats, even fantastical spider skeletons that don't actually exist in real life but were the product of a creative mind.

Such things always reminded Shatter of coming home.

That first night he had been terrified, alarmed by the army of little monsters which seemed to rush the door to no end, knocking and calling out, "Trick or Treat!" Shatter had seen everything from vampires and werewolves to a massive plant with wiggling leaf-hands, calling out, "Feed Me Seymour, I want candies!"

Creeping further into the house on his belly, tail tucked, hadn't been much better. There was a light-up ghost nearly twice as tall as the little puppy, and its eyes glowed and flickered with the strobe light inside. He crawled into the room with the big comfy couch and there on the floor he found a tiny plastic witch, which he grabbed in his tiny jaws but the thing released a shrill cackle and he dropped it in fright, not knowing what sort of toy would make such a terrible noise!

Finally he smelled something delicious and went to follow his nose, straight to the kitchen where a pizza was baking in the oven. Pizza! He'd smelled that before. He licked his chops and sat patiently, watching the food cook through the window in the front of the stove. The person came in then - that girl who he would later come to think of as his person, though at this point, to his mind, she was still just 'the new human'.

"Aww, found a nice place to rest here?" She asked, having witnessed his scurry from the front door, into the den, and now to the rear of the house. "Don't worry, I left a candy bowl out front for the trick-or-treaters, now I can spend some time with you!"

She knelt down on his level and now the puppy could finally notice that she smelled rather nice, like other dogs and just a whiff of peanut butter. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad here, after all.

((Sorry, I had stuff come up today and didn't have time to polish the story. No worries if I'm submitting too late but I had to try for this gorgeous pup!))
HHH was the runt of the litter, 7th pup born on a Friday the 13th. To a mother stuck in a shed by a byb and the only place that had any measure of cover was a step ladder. How many tropes can fit on one small pup.
When it came time for the pups to find new home, hhh was passed over again and again Even the breeder, who could barely stand to look at her, discouraged people from picking her. Bad luck that one. And the things adults would whisper to each other or to their kids. All black and looking like that, must be bad luck. They say black brings bad luck. I’m sure it’s just silly superstition but..there’s a pretty blonde pup over there. Hhh didn’t blame her siblings, they didnt chose how they looked either. Over time, hhh stopped trying to get the attention and just laidd silently in the corner when humans came to visit. Finally, the breeder had enough. Knowing that Halloween was coming up and everyone would be distracted that night, he planned on dumping the unlucky pup. It was the perfect excuse to. After all, he could say “oh she got spooked by some trick or treating kid and ran off..bad luck”. Unknowing of his plans hhh had wondered into the nearby woods for a break.
A young child had wandered up to the breeder’s shed. They had seen the candles and decorations around the yard and though they could trick or treat at the shed’s door. The door opened when they knocked due to the breeder forgetting to shut it earlier. But as the kid opened the door further and walked in, the door knocked over some candles. As they stepped inside the kid tripped, hitting their head on the way down.
Eventually hhh realized she needed to get back home. But as she approached the shed something was off. The whole thing was glowing? Was this.. A fire! Hhh raced to the door and saw the child within. She ran over and tried licked but he wasn’t getting up. She ran back out barking trying to get someone’s attention. Eventually the kids’ parents came around and saw the pup barking and the shed on fire. The quickly raced over and saw their child. The kids was quickly grabbed and raced to the ER and hhh was all alone in the night again, quickly forgotten.
The next day, the breeder kicked hhh out. He assumed she had been the one to knock over the flame and start the fire. This dog has been nothing but bad luck! Now my shed has burned down! As he was pushing hr into the street, the boy's parents car showed up. The jumped out of the car and grabbed hhh. We'll take her! She must be such good luck!
Hhh couldn't believe her ears! GOOD luck?

Name: ZG Through The Looking-Glass | Pier
Name Meaning: Pier is a pun on the word "peer", as in to peer into a mirror or looking-glass
Gender: Male
Prompt: [263 words]
Pier loves Halloween! There are so many new faces and smells that come to him, he doesn’t even have to go anywhere. He enjoys dressing up and will pick out his costume well in advance so that any adjustments that need to be made, can be made. Though there is one night in particular that stands out to him and will for many years to come.
The day was like any other day at the kennels. The dogs were let out for some exercise before their first meal, and then some light training was scheduled that afternoon. Pier’s favorite part was the groomers afterwards, he loves the massage-like experience, the warm water, and the sweet smells. A few dogs are selected to participate in the annual Haunted Howl show, where they can perform a simple agility and conformation course for the public. Pier is picked almost every year because he is so good at playing for the crowd.
This October was colder than average, and heavy precipitation was forecasted. It did precipitate, but not how everyone was expecting. It was cold enough that it snowed a few inches throughout the day. The plan for the Haunted Howl was altered a bit for safety, but Pier was still able to wear his Frankenstein’s Monster costume and catch snowballs tossed by the local children.
Pier grew up in a warmer climate, so snow is very special to him as it happens so rarely. The fact that it snowed on his favorite day was really something amazing to this pup, and he remembers that day fondly.

Name: FMK's The Black Mirror aka "Hantu"
Name Meaning: Hantu is indonesian for spirit or ghost
Gender: Male

Prompt: [[392 words]]

Hantu will always remember his first Halloween on the homestead. He was new to the grounds and knew very little of them-- aside from the ghost stories Poltergeist told to him. On the edge of the property sat a few buildings in a saddened state. Their crooked doorways and weeping windows creaked in the winds and the cold of the night. As if wailing a somber song. It was the old barn and house that stood on the grounds, now long abandoned and left to rot in the muck. Other buildings including a chicken coop and horse stable had long since fallen, their foundation sticking up like bones in the grass.

He always wanted to visit them but they were not allowed to go close, something about the safety and instability, but he believed it was the former owners and collies that lived on this ground. It was haunted. Or so Poltergeist rumoured.

The previous Halloween they managed to hype each other up to approach these restless wooden memories, the weathervane spinning as the wind howled between their ears. Their was a door that was lightly swinging open and slammed shut, locked, as they neared. Old curtains waved at them through glassless windows. A shadow! Passing in the darkness. Hantu and Poltergeist had looked at each other before she stepped forward, Hantu tentatively followed. They placed their paws in the windowsill, inside was as if someone had been living there, or, still was. Hantu leapt in first, the floorboards squeaking beneath his petite paws. His hackles raised. The energy was different in here! A sorrowful wail could be heard in a backroom followed by something falling, a glass or piece of china perhaps. Hantu yelped as Poltergeist heaved herself through the window, nearly landing on him instead.

Another shadow passed in front of them, two perhaps! They were tall, lanky, and didn't touch the ground they swore! As they approached a shrill sound filled their ears yet again. Poltergeist barked as Hantu whined at her, wanting to go back home. Suddenly two cats fled between their legs, they danced around them as they turned tail with them and left the buildings, soon to return home. To this very Halloween they're not sure if it was a true haunting, or just two felines living there. But that sound..
