Borgata is very young still, he hasn't even been around for a full year on this earth yet. There are so many things he hasn't ever experienced, such as snowflakes and Valentine's Day and basically almost everything, since he pretty much came into being just a very short while ago. So far all of his life experiences can be summed up as this:
First, he came into being in this form. That is to say, the body which he currently lives in and inhabits. He may be a bit vain, but if you ask him, he is really rather handsome! And many others would agree, but that is quite beside the point. What does matter here is that when he was a tiny youngling, he went exploring and adventuring and he discovered something amazingly strange, which Chicoons like to do from time to time, always sticking their curious little noses into things.
What happened was that travelling through a forest, he came upon a cave. Being the adventurous spirit that he is, he went inside, using only his tail flame to guide him. While he was inside of that dark cavern, he happened to notice a strange fungus growing on the walls, which had a light all its own and glowed enough to sort of guide him even deeper into the tunnel system. Very far inside, perhaps about half a mile or so, he encountered a body of water, filled with small cute axolotls. The axolotls smiled and swam around very happily so he decided to take a dip and join them, feeling the cool water on his skin and he swum around, sure to keep his head above the water. While in there he felt things touching him, sliding against him in a cool and slippery kind of way, and it would have freaked him out but he thought it was just his axolotl buddies. Lo and behold, it was actually a parasite, which took root and attached itself to him.
At first Borgata didn't notice that he had company, and he made his way back to his home and settled in for the night. That evening when he slept he had very vivid dreams of the cool waters in the cave and what lurked beneath. He even 'heard' a voice inside of his own head, which is one he was unfamiliar with, but it spoke very clearly to him without words, almost more like his own thoughts. He would catch a smell, an image, or a sound, all things that were conjured almost like the wisp of a memory. That morning when he woke up he thought nothing of it, assuming it was only a dream, and yet he was still having those feelings and sensations, even while awake.
He made his way out of his den and headed to the encampment nearest his home, thinking that perhaps he would talk with the other chicoons there and maybe spend some time with them, as he occasionally did for a bit of company and socialization. He wasn't particularly close to anyone, but he had made friends well enough that he was on speaking terms with all of them. The other chicoons were Aztec, Demi, Firefly, and Reverie. But when he showed up they were acting quite strangely.
Demi usually always had a smile and a kind word for Borgata and loved to tell him jokes and play around, even pranking him sometimes, but today they simply screamed and ran off, which was most unusual indeed! Firefly, a youngling like himself, and their caregiver (the mother-figure of the group) Reverie, both shuddered when they saw him and turned and retreated into their den. He had no idea what was wrong, but he didn't follow them. Finally he saw Aztec, who took one look at him and then bristled, flapping his wings in a jerky, angry movement.
"What happened to you? What sort of pestilence do you bring among us?" Aztec demanded.
Pestilence? Borgata didn't feel sick...
When he did a quick self-inspection, he saw the strange thing on his body but the sensation was soothing, cooling, and he actually felt even stronger than he had before! Borgata decided to leave it in place and see what would happen, being the curious adventurer that he was. "Honestly I will tell you, I found it going swimming but I am feeling strong, I traveled all through the forest and back to my home, and still made it here the next morning. I couldn't have done it without the help of this strange being, whatever it is."
Aztec didn't like the thought of it, and informed him it was a parasite. He told Borgata that the best thing to do would be to remove the offending creature and go back to life as normal, but Borgata insisted they give his new friend a chance.
"We cannot just remove it! What if it dies without me? I tell you, it's done me favors in this short time and I haven't had a single flea bite me since this creature came about. It does some sort of magic, I think!"
So they kept Borgata under observation and for several days he was to report to the encampment once daily and then head home and indeed they saw him get stronger, taller and bigger, and this was very impressive and certainly something to be looked upon more with pride than with shame. The other Chicoons don't necessarily want to become hosts to a parasite but neither do they look down upon it and instead they are open-minded and have not only returned to treating Borgata as normal, but these days they also have grown closer to him, seeing that he is young but wise in ways they do not yet understand and they expect great things from him in the future.
