Kylie ]
Kylie and her friends were trick or treating together when they first heard the rumors. Other groups of trick-or-treaters were discussing it as they made their way from house to house in search of treats; some of the Pokemon and humans handing out candy would mention them as well, warning the group to stay close together and to be careful. Of course, as rumors often were, these rumors were rather confusing because the details varied with almost every retelling of it they heard. Still, the group managed to figure out that the rumors were revolving around the possibility of a dark creature appearing and causing destruction and chaos. Many of those who had told the group about them had also mentioned the forest south of town being where this creature would supposedly come from.
Most of Kylie's friends were more inclined to believe the rumors were not real; presumably just a ghost story someone told that a bunch of people ran wild with. However, one of their friends seemed to believe the rumors about the creature and wanted to see if it was real. And so, the group, mainly due to being concerned that if they did not join him, he would go looking for it all by himself and get lost, set off towards the forest south of town to look for the creature. Kylie did not have her mind set one way or the other, but was somewhat curious whether or not the rumors were true, and followed the others without complaint. It seemed their group was not the only one that was not heeding the warnings, as they came across a few other groups heading the same way.
Upon reaching the forest, they were seemingly met with disappointment since there were no signs of any kind of creature there. Just as one of Kylie’s friends suggested they go back to trick or treating, however, the sky suddenly became ominously dark, much darker than it should have been at this hour. The group had left rather early to maximize their search for candy after all, but one looking at the sky would think it was nearly midnight. Then smoke started appearing, but it was an unnatural, red color rather than normal smoke.
“Guys, I think it’s real!” Kylie’s friend said excitedly, much more excitedly than the other murmurs that had broken out from the other groups around them.
“That’s great, but we’re never going to be able to actually see it with all of this smoke,” another friend pointed out. It was true; the amount of smoke had grown to the point where Kylie could barely see her own paw in front of her.
Someone from another group, not too far away, spoke up nervously. “Hey, can we go now? I mean, didn’t that one Meowth say that this creature causes chaos and destruction?” More murmuring followed that comment, but no one was really able to see where they were going, so leaving was not exactly an option at the moment.
Just then, two blue lights appeared in the sky, drawing everyone’s attention. The smoke finally cleared up, revealing the creature from the rumors… A Darkrai and Yveltal fusion. There were a lot of gasps, and even a couple of panicked shouts, from among the others gathered there. But while almost everyone seemed to be filled with dread, Kylie simply looked up at the fusion curiously. For a creature that supposedly caused chaos and destruction, it did not appear like it was actually interested in doing either of those things. In fact, it was simply watching the groups who had gathered there. Maybe it was just as curious about them as Kylie was about it.
For several minutes, nobody moved, the Darkrai and Yveltal fusion staring down at everyone as they stared back up at it. Eventually, the fusion let out an unearthly screech, and that was when the chaos started- though looking back at it, the chaos had actually been started by the groups on the ground, not the fusion. Several Pokemon attacked the fusion in a panic, apparently assuming the screech was an indication of an intention to fight. However, in the flurry of attacks that followed, Kylie noticed that the Darkrai and Yveltal fusion was not attacking in retaliation. Instead, it was simply dodging as many of the attacks coming towards it as it could. While it did let out a few more screeches, nothing it was doing appeared to be causing any damage.
On the other hand, several missed attacks were causing damage to the forest, and Kylie was honestly just relieved no one had yet attempted to use a fire move since that could easily result in a massive forest fire. They wondered if this battle was even necessary; the Darkrai and Yveltal fusion actually appeared to have no ill will towards any of them, despite all of the moves being thrown at it. She wondered if the screech earlier, rather than being a threat, was actually intended to be a greeting…
Maybe this was all just a big misunderstanding. Kylie decided that if it was, they were going to stop it. Taking a breath to gather as much courage as she could, she called out, “Everyone, stop attacking! There’s no need for a fight!” Unfortunately, aside from their friends, most of the others gathered there just ignored them. “Please, just listen for a minute!” Still, her cries were ignored.
Finally, Kylie had enough, and flew up into the air, in between the others and the Darkrai and Yveltal fusion. “Stop attacking!” To their surprise and relief, seeing someone move to defend the fusion seemed to have made everyone pause. “I think there was a misunderstanding, we can figure this out without fighting!”
“What are you talking about?” someone in the crowd replied. “Of course we need to fight, to defend ourselves and the town!”
“No we don’t! Can’t you see, it isn’t trying to hurt us or the town!” Kylie explained. “I think that was its way of saying hello-”
“Just look at all the destruction around here!” another member of the crowd interrupted. “It’s like all the warnings we heard! It causes destruction and chaos!”
“It didn’t cause any of that! You all did!” Kylie retorted, but no one was listening.
“Get out of the way! We can talk about things later, after we’ve dealt with the threat!” A Pokemon told her, before attacking again.
“But it’s not-” Kylie began, not moving from their spot between the crowd and the fusion despite their friends’ worried shouts as the attack headed swiftly towards them. Just before the attack would have reached her, a large, black and red wing appeared in front of her. Confused, Kylie turned and found themself face to face with the Darkrai and Yveltal fusion. “You protected me…” Kylie realized, now even more sure that this was a misunderstanding.
Fortunately, seeing the fusion take the hit that would otherwise have hurt Kylie seemed to have made everyone pause again, and this time they seemed more open to listening. Kylie explained what she thought had happened, and though not everyone seemed entirely convinced, everyone was ultimately willing to stop fighting. Slowly, the crowd dispersed as groups headed back to town, and eventually only Kylie, their friends, and the Darkrai and Yveltal fusion remained at the edge of the forest. The fusion gave another screech, causing Kylie’s friends to tense up, but she simply smiled up at it, guessing what it was trying to say. “Thank you, too.” Kylie then noticed their forgotten bag of candy, which they had dropped when they flew into the air earlier. Retrieving it, she looked up at the fusion. “Want to go trick or treating with us?”
And that was what led to a new set of rumors around town, where many people claimed to have seen a legendary fusion going door to door asking for candy.
