mayhew looks up to sawyer. not only is she his elder but he also looks up to her as a sister. mayhew never knew his family and was adopted by the ragtag bunch of cats as a very young cat when he was as close to death as one can be without succumbing to her welcoming paws. and, funnily enough, it was sawyer who convinced the leader at the time to welcome them into the clan considering the fact that he was an outsider with a strange accent, causing the other members to be somewhat wary of the then kitten.

luckily, Sawyer was always there to defend his honour when he was being alienated, forcing the other cherubs and prophets of the clan to include him in all their little cherub games, to which they were always grateful.

it's her that they want to be like. hell, mayhew would probably be happy being half the cat she is. he always tries to be kind to everybody, even when they don't exactly deserve it but everybody deserves a little kindness in this world, especially if, perhaps, they have never known it before, like he once did.
