Storkatten #641 - Adopt

Postby kiwipen » Tue Apr 12, 2022 1:46 pm

Storkatten, often shortened to Storkies, are a magical breed of fantasy felines. Descended from Freya's own mythical mounts, Storkies are chock-full of magic and potential. They're quite powerful and loyal companions. While some may choose to live in colonies out in the wild, others may choose the companionship of humans. Many Storkies also possess magical abilities, though require the usage of runes to unlock them.

      This is another Storkatten who is Absent magic; however, they were born in the modern day; a surprise to their parents, as Absent magic was thought to be extinct! Tell me, are they planning on learning a magic or sticking to what they know? What role do they play in their colony?

    14 Moons ago ; Empyrian Elemental District, 11:20pm

    When the group of cats entered the household, the night was dark...far darker than the night was supposed to be. The world below saw nothing of the moon, and no stars dotted the sky. Of course, it was on purpose. The moon dared not look upon the Empyrian home, and the stars hid away, for today was a day of judgement, cruel and terrifying judgement. The kit's family, siblings and parents alike shivered as they made themselves a wall between the intruding storkatten and the youngest of the children, sleeping soundly on a pile of hay.

    The largest of the cats, with a pelt of reds and black, laughed to himself as he watched the scene in front of him. "As adorable as this display of familial love is, I'm afraid it must be cut short. We've come here to assess your youngest child, and I'm quite sure you're all aware of what will happen if you continue to stand in our way." The storkie stepped forwards, his large claws scratching against the dirt floor. As he approached, one of the storkatten, the orange tom that fathered the kit, spoke out with a surprisingly strong voice despite his fear. "Please, Great Blood leader Antiphonus! Kassios is simply late in his development, we shall see his magic come to light soon, I assure you! There's no need for all of this!"

    A pause, though the frown that went across Antiphonus' face made it clear he was not amused by the other's words, not even in his twisted joy of seeing this family in fear. "Last week, you made me return to Eldoris with no word of this child's magic. The Census is due by week's end. I've given your family a chance. We both know that this must be done, Flarewind." The family looked at eachother, and though the kit's siblings seemed more keen to block the way, their parents knew what'd be best. They made a path to the child, allowing the group of cats to enter into the home, and walk directly to the sleeping kit.

    "Iza, the runes?"

    With that, a smaller female rune storkie made herself known, providing a collection of small stones with runes carved in them. Very quickly, the child was surrounded by stones, and the Rune Magician did her work to identify the magic of the child which currently stood as a mystery.

    As she worked, Antiphonus turned to the family, a large paw finding its way to sit upon Flarewind's shoulder. "I assure you, most likely, your child will just be a late-blooming elemental. Maybe taking on a magic unlike you and your wife's fire, common cause of late-blooming magic, actually." He explained, and that seemed to calm the family- the Blood Leader...speaking to them like this, in such kindness, was a blessing that they were grateful for. Especially as the low-class elemental family they were.

    Moment passed... and then minutes... and then, by the strike of the hour, Iza let out a horrified gasp, summoning Antiphonus to her side. Antiphonus' relatively calm expression turned to panic, running over to see what the problem had been. Both of them stared into the kit's eye, carefully but forcibly opened by Iza's careful paws. "An Absent." Iza explained, and she could see how Antiphonus' expression darkened. "Impossible. Are you certain?" Antiphonus didn't even need to see Iza's nod to understand. The silence they shared after the question spoke enough. A huff.

    "Flarewind, I'd like to apologize for what is to happen." Antiphonus stated, tail flicking behind him as he turned around. "Your child... he is a special case, something we have not seen in...many moons. We will be taking him to the capitol building so that Eldoris may see him. It's very likely this will be the last you see of him." Immediately, the father panicked. "But-but you assured us that-" "I said that it was likely. However your child has surpassed all odds, and Eldoris will have to see him. His fate is no longer yours to interfere with." Flarewind stopped, paws falling to the floor and his face quickly being shoved into his wife's fur, the heavy sobs that followed being muffled by the heavy fur.

    Antiphonus turned to the cat who had, for the majority of this trip, sat calmly in the corner of the room. "Draven! Carry the child. We make for Eldoris' chambers at once." The cat in question jumped to attention once he had heard the blood leader's voice, walking past to quickly scoop up the child by their scruff. There could have been argument, there could have been a fight, but they knew better. The three of them left, the kit in their clutches. When the pawsteps faded, the moon did not return, the stars did not shine in, but the sky wept. Heavy rain on the rooftops accompanying the sound of a mourning family, now with one less set of paws.

    Current Day; Lunar Leader's Sanctum, Midnight

    "Father?"
    "Hm, yes Kassios?"
    "When can I go outside?"

    The lunar cat looked up at the other, meeting with his blank eyes, eyes that stared but could not perceive... not anymore. "Kassios, why would you want to go outside? You're safe here, you have everything that you need, what would the outside bring you that we cannot?" The Lunar leader asked, watching as the absent storkie's face became downturned. He had asked this before, many times in fact, and it was met with the same response. It was true, too. He had everything. He was fed, he got drinks both of water and fancier things, he even had been given a friend that his beloved family picked out for him. Yes, his father Vikesh, the Lunar Leader, had picked out a nice cat who had shadow magic to be his friend, and though Kassios couldn't see him, he knew that he had to look as cool as he sounded. And yet...

    "Well, father- I hear so much about the sun from Mister Pichu... and I hear so much about all the other things I can feel outside! Like the wind and the stone and-" "Kassios." The younger cat's talking was stopped in it's tracks by Vikesh's stern yet concerned voice. "You know what Eldoris has said, you are too special to walk out there, with your blindness and your weak body, who knows what may happen to you." Kassios' face became even more of an echo of sorrow, causing the leader to put his tail around him in a comforting embrace. "Kassios, you are meant to be here, studying your magic. Perhaps, when the day comes where you become a paragon of the moon, you will be allowed to go and bask in the moon's glorious light through more than just your window. But for now, we need you safe. Do you understand, my child?" The tabby nodded, looking in the direction of his father's voice. "Yes father, I promise I'll stay safe."

    Vikesh smiled, moving the other's paw to his face so that Kassios could feel his smile of approval on his pawpads. "Good, Kassios. You always are such a wonderful child. Now, what would you like for dinner tonight. Just for you, anything you'd like." Kassios perked up, a grin going across his own face. "Oh! I'd love some trout today, father!" A laugh from the lunar leader. "Of course, Kassios. Anything for you."

    Current Day; Council Throne Room ,1:45am

    "Eldoris, your greatness. Are you quite sure this is what you'll want to do? Our ritual with the elemental child were successful, but the scars that they obtained are far beyond anything we've ever seen! If we were to attempt to infuse a magic as powerful as Lunar into a storkatten with no magic, there's a very likely chance that he may... he may-" The healing storkatten paused, unsure if they wanted to speak it into the world, thankfully, they didn't need to. "He may die. I am aware, Jirgol." Eldoris responded, adjusting his paws upon his throne as he looked down upon the lesser storkie.

    "You understand Jirgol, this child was not meant to live. Years ago me and my allies promised to eradicate all of the absent storkatten, and had it not been for Dhylarenia's wild theories, I would have sent him to die with the rest." Eldoris' tone was harsh, cruel, something seen by so many who found the time to see the balance storkie in his throne room. "I, I understand, your greatness." Jirgol acknowledged, nodding his head and looking away for a small moment. "Then, the ritual will continue as planned... on the next full moon, we will attempt to infuse the power of a lunar storkie into the absent one. If the ritual fails and he perishes... we shall erase any record of his birth."

    Jirgol took a moment, a pause, considering if they should say their next words. No matter what they thought, however, they had no choice but to speak their mind. "If the ritual fails and he survives..." they didn't get another moment before Eldoris interrupted. "That will not be an issue, Jirgol. I shall tell Antiphonus to accompany you and Dhylarenia to the ritual. If the absent one dares to fail and survive, he will do what he must." Jirgol knew what it meant, and he knew deep in his heart that they had to say something, to speak against this... but it was not for them to say. The only reason they could speak in such defiance so far was because they were a great life storkie's assistant. They knew that if they stepped out of line too far... Dhylarenia would find another storkie to replace them.

    "Yes, your greatness. As you say."

at the sound of a newborn kitten's cries on that fateful morning, a new dawn struck lavender glade colony.

no one had seen it coming. two high-ranking cats producing an.... absent?
Rina, daughter of the ever powerful Artemesia and prophet for the storkie of death. and Isi, first born of Liadan and kora, next in line to look over the colony.

"can we trust someone to lead us if they cant even produce a magic child?"

"did Rina do something to anger the gods? can we just her to act as a prophet?"

"is this a reflection of Liadans possible wrongdoings?"

much to the dismay of both parents Liadan wanted to begin research right away. all arcane and astral cats were brought on board to help discover how much a kitten could be born. all of the signs pointed to it being impossible, the only time storkies without magic were mentioned was in decades-old prophecies and books. no colonies had seen one born amongst them as long as it could be remembered. absent storkies were much more a myth than something anyone ever took as truth.

the pairs other kits came to visit, wanting to offer support to their parents. yet as soon as the solar storkie, Dalia entered the room turned cold. her eyes rolled back in her head and began to glow a bright yellow, as she opened her mouth, a smoke poured out from seemingly nowhere.

"Amakhania"

a voice not belonging to Delia proclaimed.
the walls began to whisper the name back.
Amakhania.
the kitten had been named.

‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵ʚ˚̣̣̣͙ɞ・❉・ ʚ˚̣̣̣͙ɞ‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵

despite her differences, Rina and Isi made sure Amakhania, now nicknamed Khania, got as normal of a childhood as she could. everyone continued to wait for her magic to come in. maybe they had been wrong? but by the time she had reached a year old the colony had accepted her fate as absent. many other storkies were not happy, but what could be done?

‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵ʚ˚̣̣̣͙ɞ・❉・ ʚ˚̣̣̣͙ɞ‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵‿︵

the fated moment occurred as Khania was on one of her daily walks. she was coming up on her second birthday, Rina and Isi both wanted her to find her place within the colony. most cats knew by her age... but Khania couldn't help but try and push off her future more. it was so easy for every other kit, they didn't have to worry about not fitting in, at least not in the same way as her. she had a few friends, kits she had been raised around, but as they began to play their part in the colony and work alongside storkies with the same magic, Khania fell behind. she tried to not show how much it hurt her, not needing her parents worrying anymore.

Amakhania came to a stop in the center of the temples. tomorrow was Wednesday, a day devoted to their gods, and once again would she be left watching from the outside. as if she could not feel any worse a slow trickle of rain began to fall around her. letting out a breath of air, Khania turned her head towards the clouds letting the rain leave teardrops on her cheeks.

"welcome"

so, what happened that day?
it was the voice of Theos who welcomed her to the hall of the paragon.
the same voice heard on the day of her birth.
her goal had been explained, to work as a messenger of the gods and work to further storkatten rule.
immortality was granted
she was sent back, seemingly no time having passed at all.

[587 words + 91]
lavender glade lore strong magic users act as a prophet for their god. on days of worship they communicate with their god and lead the others to do acts of worship. Amakhania had been chosen to be an overall prophet for the paragons, to communicate their needs and do any services needed. she was granted immortality against her will to ensure she would forever be able to work for the paragons. as she does this work, she hopes one day she will find another storkie just like her, absent of magic.

Amakhania
was the personified spirit (daimona) of helplessness and want

Colony Tracker
Name: Mason
WC: 316

Mason knew they were an oddity, from day one. They knew that there were no others like them, no others that had been born with what many considered a disability. As he grew older however, Mason was determined not to see it as such. 'Everyone relies on magic far too much these days,' he realized, watching his own colonies and the other storkies. 'But not me. I will become the smartest, the strongest, the fastest... all on my own power.'

It was a promise, a vow that they held close to their heart. Everyday was spent towards this goal, as he ignored the strange looks others gave him along the way. He knew they looked down on him, and he did not care. One day, after all, they would be looking up. And he would revel in that day, proving to them all just how mighty he had become on his own. He developed his own obstacle course, to focus on both strength and agility. Running through it day after day, he was diligent in his work and never once skipped a day. He ran this course three times a day, followed by studying of the world, of the other storkies and their magic, and of anything he could generally get his paws upon. He wanted to be smart as well as strong after all! For what was strength without the mind and will to guide it?

Every time they laughed or looked down at him, he came back with a witty quip or a fierce gaze. He was never looking back, never stepping down. He welcomed ANY challenge, be it mental or physical. And eventually, he would stand on top of his peers, taking a position that nobody thought one like himself could. He would be the best through his own strength, and show the storkies that THEY were the ones handicapped with their magic.

Storkie Name;
    Arae
Name Meaning;
    Arae were female personifications of curses in Greek mythology, and often associated with death or the underworld
Storkie Gender;
    Female
Colony;
    Nos Omnes Unum
(Lore) Parents;
    Tyr the Elder (Rune Paragon) + Chryses the Light One (Solar Magic)

Colony Backstory;
    Nos Omnes Unum - "We Are All One". That is the name given to this colony, forged by a great and powerful storkatten who was said to know every magic type that exists in this world, with shimmering rainbow eyes, a font of glorious and beautiful power poured from them, and they created the haven and idyllic territory, flush with a rich bounty of natural resources and prey, a perfect paradise for all storkies to live in peace, and harmony. It is said that from this single storkatten not only was the entire territory founded, but so too were all the storkies, a colony where at least one of every magic type lived in prosperity and tranquility. In honor of their glorious and benevolent founder, each storkatten of the Nos Omnes Unum colony strives to embody and perfect their born magic(s), to become attuned with it and use its wonderous power for the benefit of all storkies and the colony. Upon achieving enlightenment with their magic, a storkie may earn a title related to their magic and role in the colony, and a place as a "Guider". One who uses their magic to teach and help and strengthen the colony; to show young kits how their magic, too, may bloom and grow and become a part of their very essence, making them whole, and complete. It does not matter if the magic is a common, simple magic like those of the elements, or a raw and powerful magic like that of the sun, or the powers over life and death itself. Any and every magic is revered and loved, and can attain the rank of a Guider to be held in the highest esteem. Tyr, a paragon of Rune magic, is considered the leader of this peaceful colony, held in a loftier position than even other guiders simply because of his deep understanding and knowledge of all magic types even aside from his own, given the title of Elder, not for his age, but for the wisdom he has gained through his studies of all magic, able to create runes for every kind of magic there is. In a colony with abundant and open love, many storkatten are polyamorous, and Tyr is no exception, and so he and Chryses, a Guider of Solar magic, sired a single, tiny kit...

Enter Arae;
    She was born, a single kit in her litter, no other siblings, and smaller than the average kit should be. She was a tiny, frail little thing, her eyes firmly shut. Both her parents took constant care of her to keep her warm and fed, helping he struggle to her feet with their muzzles whenever she tried to crawl, simply too weak and fragile to really move on her own. They worried for her, nurtured her, and the entire colony pitched in to help the tiny little thing, everyone using their magic to heal her, make her body stronger, keep her cool or warm, keep her well fed, help her dreams be peaceful and her slumber restful. With the help of the whole colony, she grew strong and steady, but still her eyes did not open. At last, just when their worry was beginning to peak and drive them all crazy, her eyes opened.
    dead silence.
    You could have heard a feather fall through the air, the way the sheer shock rang through the entire colony who had come together to help this tiny kitten, who... had no magic. She was not sightless, even her father's blind eye was clouded with blue and grey despite the pale appearance it had. There was... nothing coming from her. Not even the faintest traces of magic powers or energy, just simply... nothing. It was if she had no magic at all, as if she were... Absent.
    A hush fell over the colony in the days following her eyes opening, whispers spreading through the colony, worry hanging over the normally peaceful, utopian colony like a heavy, dark cloud. What did this mean..? Why had she been born with no magic? They were horrified, confused, and scared. What would they do without magic, if she had been born Absent, then surely others might as well- or worse, what if Absence could spread, and infect others? It had been so many centuries since an Absent storkatten had been born, or even heard of, that they just didn't know what it was, what it could do.
    Tyr especially felt this unexpected blow the hardest- he was the leader of the colony, he had studied and learned from every magic type there was, and he was her father. Now the colony looked to him for answers and.. he had none for them. He loved his daughter, but... What could he do?
    ... What could any of them do..?
    Tyr and Chryses tried to stop the spread of whispered rumors, tried to still any talk of exiling her from their territory, but still the talk continued to spread through their land, passing from ear to ear and getting more twisted with each iteration of the tale that was passed on, until half of their land believed her to be a curse, an ill omen, or even a disease. To make matters worse, she had not uttered a single word since being born. Mute and with her blank, white gaze, so many were terrified to even be near her.
    Knowing that the wedge being driven into her colony was her own fault, Arae, given a cursed name by the entire colony, one night rose to her paws. She gazed at her parents, who slept deep with exhaustion from their worries and from the duties and burdens they had borne from her, and turned away, slipping silently through the night as the colony slept beneath a moonless sky.
    She knew no magic.
    But she knew herself, a great potential lay within her.
    The potential of a blank slate.
    The potential to be... anything.
    What is a canvas, if nothing more than a vessel for something extraordinary?
    The power of creation.
    She would learn magic, as many as she could. She would become like the founder of their land, with rainbow eyes that shone brightly with every magic imaginable. And then, and only then, would she return... To make her family, and her colony, proud.

Aftereffects;
    Arae is a loner storkie who wanders the world in a futile and impossible dream, hoping to learn every magic type there is so that she can become like the fabled original leader of her colony, so that she can return to her colony and be accepted, and heal the rift that she caused through no fault of her own. She loves her family and her colony deeply, and she wants only to do right by them. However, by leaving without any warning, it caused her parents great sorrow and grief, and they spend many a day looking for their lost daughter. The colony, moved by their weeping and their sorrow, and feeling guilty by their harsh and sudden words and judgement, spend days upon days looking for her, just wanting her to come home, magic or no magic.
    Will perhaps one day they finally find her again?
    Will perhaps one day, they be able to tell her that it is okay to have been born the way she was, and that she has her place in their colony just like everyone else?
    Or will she be doomed to forever chase her pointless quest and dream..?
