This pretty little tolter is all nice and cozy, just like a steaming cup of hot chocolate! My favorite thing on a cold winter day is to get a nice, fuzzy blanket with a warm cup of hot cocoa. Súkkulaði didn't always call Ironwood home. She had come from a small farm in the Yukon, having been a very well loved and cared for family horse. As the owners of the farm got older it became harder for them to take care of Súkkulaði and with their children having all moved to the southern parts of Canada, they found us and asked if we could take care of her in their stead. How could we say no? So Súkkulaði was brought down to Ironwood, but we could tell that she was missing her previous family. We contacted them and brainstormed ways to help make the transition between her two homes easier, when her Dad suggested sending down one of his old winter flannels, it would give her a sense of home while she was adjusting to her new one.
Once the package arrived we took it straight to the stables and opened it in Súkkulaði stall, the whinny she let out when she got that first whiff of that old flannel was heart warming. It took us a while to figure out how we could make it easier for her to have it where ever she went but before too long we figured out the best way was to turn it into a nose cushion on her halter and bridle. We have had that old red flannel for years now and every time she gets a new halter or bridle we cut off a section and stitch it on. We will make sure she always has a piece of her former family with her as long as she calls Ironwood home.

Picture/Story: When Cocoa was just a few hours old, she was given a blanket. It was a plain black blanket, nothing special. But Cocoa adored her blanket. She would refuse to sleep without the blanket and would often drag it around with her. Over time, Cocoa's blanket was chewed on, stepped on, and washed again and again. With the constant usage, Cocoa's baby blanket began to show signs of wear and tear. She was given a new blanket to replace the worn one, but Cocoa tossed the new one on the ground and refused to touch it. Luckily, her owner knew how to do some simple stitches to sew the tears together. But they only had some purple thread to repair Cocoa's black blanket with. Over time, Cocoa's blanket kept being worn and torn. And every time, her owner would sew the rips back together until Cocoa's blanket was a multitude of colors and patterns. Her plain black blanket was plain no more. Instead it contained swirls of blues, purples, and greens with small silver stitches throughout. What was once a black void was now a brilliant galaxy. But sadly, all things come to an end. Her blanket was starting to unravel, and patching it wouldn't make it last much longer. But her owner thought of one way to let Cocoa keep her blanket. The blanket was cut into smaller pieces, removing the most damaged parts, and these smaller pieces were sown into little leggings for her to show off her galaxy blanket. Although her baby blanket is no more, it lives on as Cocoa's new favorite accessory.
