When Ghost first encountered Bubbles' mane of fluff, they were incredibly confused. Was this some sort of weird, invisible bush? A bunch of the Travelers standing close together for unknown reasons? There was so much fur, there was no way it could be just one cat! After investigating several times, the kitten finally reached up and poked Bubbles' face, and realized that this was in fact the fur of only one cat. He's still often startled by the Bubbles though, and bumps into her a lot because he underestimates how much space her fur takes up.

Puddle is fully convinced that it's possible to drown in Bubbles' fur. He's terrified of the fluffy mane, and stays as far away from the she-cat as possible. He has nothing against Bubbles herself -- she's a nice cat, even if he does think her name is kind of silly -- he just doesn't want to suffocate in a giant tangle of fur.

it's no secret, creampuff is one of the more loved queens within the nursery. not for her mothering nature or her sweet voice, but more purely for her fur. its almost as if the kits are sleeping on a pillow of cream fluff! sometimes when its nighttime for the nursery poor creampuffs nest will be empty. but as the sun rises the nest quickly becomes cramped of tiny little warm bodies happily snoozing away in the tangle of mink like fur.

ultimately creampuff doesn't mind the kits being so snuggly and wanting to sleep with her in the nights. even if the nest is a little cramped it helps heal the broken holes within her little heart. she lost her first litter when they were born in mid leaf-bare. despite having so much fur it just wasn't enough to keep the little ones warm through the night. and by next morning the tiny bodies were as cold as ice.

If anybody was looking for the kits on the ship, they knew to go look for Shallow Tide, it was habit by now for the little kits to be curled up in her fur and sleeping soundly, or to be crawling across the she-cat and playing with each other. And all the kits know that if the rocking of the ship ever makes them start to feel sick, they can rush over to Shallow Tide and hide in her fur and she'll keep them safe and steady.

One of the first cats that ever hid in Shallow Tide's fur was Star's Calling, they had come to the ship as a young cat, barely old to be a deckhand, but they had been so little and so cold, and Shallow Tide had immediately scooped the little cat up and helped get them dry before tucking them away under all of their fur. And by the time the next morning rolled around, Star's Calling was as energetic as they could be, ready to find their place on the ship.

It's rumored amongst the kittens that Shallow Tide's fur had some sort of magical healing property, which is absolutely ridiculous of course, Shallow Tide just knows what a little bit of love and care and do for a cat. But no matter what the issue is or how sick a kitten is, they can be given their herbs and sent to Shallow Tide to sleep it off in a warm and steady spot, and they'll be right as rain after a few days.

And Shallow Tide adores the kits, that's why they volunteered to become the den mother, she found her purpose in taking care of these kits and making sure their parents can help man the ship during the day, and then come back to their healthy and happy and curious kittens each night. Seeing them grow up to become amazing sailors abd respected individuals is something she takes great pride in.

Let's let Cheesy Dream tell us all about her nursery tactics!

"One day while I was a mere Tyro, I was assigned the job of helping the Maidens with the kits. It was cold out, but I wasn't bothered. Anyway, I went inside to the nursery tent and found a pile of really small kits huddled in a corner. Without waiting for instructions, I padded over to them and laid on my back, letting the furballs curl up on my stomach and fluffy chest fur. They all started purring, vibrating my insides, and making me feel all nice and warm inside. After awhile, I also fell asleep, being sufficiently warm.

I woke up to the sound of a Maiden coming in and trying to hold back a snicker, which didn't work in the slightest. I tilted my head to see them, and they smiled at me approvingly. I smiled back and felt a spark of joy at being accepted for my strange new idea. The kits grunted and squeaked a little, and I folded my fur over the smallest, keeping it from shivering. I then fell back into sleep.

Sweetbrier cuts an intimidating figure, despite her excess floof, and many of the clan’s kittens, are a bit hesitant to approach her. At least at first. Kittens who work up the courage to talk to her, surprisingly, find a gentle giant, who despite her enormous size is not actually that scary, and also has really really soft fur.

First impressions aside, Sweetbrier is quick to win over every new kitten in the clan, and is pretty much the most popular adult with the clan kittens. Sweetbrier lets the kittens play in her fur, even while she’s on duty.

She’s a beacon of protection and comfort, always there for the kittens when they need it. More often than not, kittens plagued with nightmares will go to her while she’s on the night watch. Sweetbrier lets them curl up into her fur while she whispers stories and songs to them to help them sleep. When a kitten is scared she lets them burrow into her pelt and hide.

Sweetbrier is adored by kittens and is a symbol of protection to them with her kindness and thick impenetrable coat of fur.
