Prompt:"Are you kidding me?!" A voice hissed through the darkness, echoing around the belly of the ship. Scorching Sands froze from where they were grabbing some fish for the retired cats on board, the fur along their spine raising as they saw the faint light of a lantern further in the ship's storage.
The cat stalked forward, making sure to avoid the boards they knew creaked when stepped on, trying to get closer to the lantern to see who was talking. Scorching Sands found themselves stuck after a moment though, if they wanted to see who it was, they would have to step into the light. It was safer to duck behind a nearby barrel and just listen.
"That's your plan?! That's never going to work! The captain is way too smart to
not see that coming from miles away! You coralbrain!" The raspy voice hissed again, and Scorching Sands jumped as they heard the tom cuff the other cat around the ears.
"Shut up! No duh the captain would realize it! That's what I'm trying to say. We come up with an obvious plan so they get distracted with that, and then while they're busy, we can sneak up and get rid of them. And bam, the ship is ours!" The other cat, a she-cat, meowed loudly.
"Shhhh! Great Beasts you're loud for someone talking about mutiny." MUTINY?! "it's a good plan, and if we pull it off right, we could do it. Even get rid of the captain, permanently."
Scorching Sands gasped on instinct, mentally cursing themselves as he heard both cats startle.
"What was that? We- we're not alone, find them. And get rid of them." The tom snarled, and Scorching Sands nearly yelped.
"You got it, boss." The she-cat meowed, she sounded excited for the hunt. Suddenly that area of the ship was plunged into darkness as one of the other cats extinguished the lantern.
Scorching Sands didn't stick around to see who was coming after them, scrabbling to get their paws under them again as they tried to sprint back towards the stairs that led up to the ship's main deck, nearly slipping in some of the sea water that pooled in spots around the storage area. Scorching Sands was only pushed to go faster as they heard pawsteps thudding behind them, and getting closer. The sailor threw everything into their running, bursting through the doors to the belly of the ship and immediately sprinting for the retired cats, shushing one as she went to ask them a question and making themselves look busy with looking at her paw for injuries.
The she-cat burst out of the doors a moment later, making all the retired cats and Scorching Sands jump, feigning surprise and confusion as the she-cat looked over at him. A smaller Tom followed her out, gaze sweeping across the deck and focusing on Scorching Sands, eyes narrowing with a hiss. Until their captain stepped out on deck and yowled for Scorching Sands. The cat hurried up to the helm, feeling the two traitors' eyes burning into their back, glancing back at the two of them only once and shivering at the hatred in their eyes.
Scorching Sands had to let the captain know what was going on, that they were going to try and get rid of him.
