Lhaalhaa was sitting at her desk, looking at her book of shadows forlornly. She had so many creations and spells she had written in but there was one that she couldn't quite get right. It was a spell to help her sleep better at night and drive nightmares away. She had been plagued most of her life by nightmares. Lhaa couldn't figure out exactly how to make this spell work, she felt she had all the ingredients and done everything right, but something was missing.
She felt a soft paw touch her shoulder and looked to see her girlfriend Raven looking at her.
"You look so upset" she said quietly.
Lhaa sighed and put her paw on top of Raven's.
"My nightmares... I haven't had a good night's rest in so long I forgot what it feels like... It's affecting my duties during the day" she felt a tear roll down her cheek but Raven caught it and wiped it up.
"My love you can't expect to heal so quickly from these things. Sometimes you need to take things slow and take a long look at the situation before you take your next step. In the meantime I'll do my best to help you in any way you can".
"Could you solve this mystery for me?" Lhaa joked. Raven chuckled and pat Lhaalhaa's shoulder before walking off again.
Lhaa watched her leave and shook her head.
"That girl..." she sighed dreamily before going back to her work.
The next few days she spent not sleeping at all. She stayed up all night racking her brain over and over again, trying different things out to figure out this spell.
"Why doesn't anything work?!" she said, exasperated and angrily shoving everything off her desk. "I don't understand!"
She laid her head in her arms and started softly sobbing. After a while she stopped and took a deep breath.
"Maybe I should have taken Raven's advice..." she said to herself before taking another deep breath.
"Okay. Take a step back, and take a long look" she picked her stuff back up off the floor and started to look at everything more carefully.
"There is something missing... I still don't know what it is, but I'll take my time finding out..."
Suddenly a paw reached out and grabbed her book.
"Maybe this will help" she handed Lhaalhaa a handmade wand. It was unique and beautiful to Lhaa, she took the wand and held it close to her heart.
"Thank you so much!" she cried before it hit her.
"Love! The spell is missing love!" she started working again on the potion immediately. Using her new wand, she started to weave it around the mist that came from her spell, and all that was left was a pink herbal liquid. She drank it and for the first time in years... She found peace in her sleep. Thanks to the wand her girlfriend gave her.

It was just a normal day in the beautiful enchanted forest. She was just drinking her hot choco until, a little deer guy rushed into her door face first to the ground but got up quickly. "Lucinda! The evil wizard is back in our village! Please help us!" Said the little deer.

As nice and courageous Lucinda is she decided to help out her fellow friends of the forest. She grabbed her magic potions and ran off with the deer to the evil wizard who was stealing Mrs freckles potions.

"Stop right there evil wizard!" Said Lucinda but the evil wizard kept on destroying the village, until Lucinda put a spell on him with her magic potions and put him into another parell universe where there are only goblins and mushrooms.

The village was saved, you could hear the villagers cheering for her " Woo! We love you Lucinda!" "Our hero!". Then as Lucinda thought she was done the queen appeared and thanked her for saving her village with her own very magic wand!

Everything was going so well, until the wand started to speak.

Not verbally, of course; that would be ridiculous. Telepathically. Mara had been drawn to it in the shop - sleek, stained black cherry, comfortable hand grip. Unknown history, the store owner said; found in the woods by a traveler awhile ago, assumed lost by the previous owner. Mara thought this was just her luck. It wasn't every day a wand this nice turned up for sale. She was very happy with her purchase until she got home and, once alone, the voice started.

Five witches and three wizards in this town, and somehow, I end up with you.

She dropped the cup she was holding. Ceramic fragments smashed over the floor, but she hardly noticed them. Spinning around and brandishing the wand, she searched for the intruder. "Reveal yourself!" she demanded. "State your business, or leave my home!"

You're holding me, the voice said. Can't reveal myself more than that. And unless you throw me out the window, I can't leave your home. As for my business, that's certainly up for discussion.

"Who-"

Stop talking out loud. I don't want people to start asking questions about me. Think to me, don't speak to me.

It was at this point that Mara felt a bit dizzy. She sat down wearily in her armchair, head spinning, staring at the wand in her hand. If anyone was in the house, security would have gone off. Someone would be sprouting toadstools or have their shoes catch on fire. There was no one here, no one...but the wand.

Better?

No, she thought weakly. How is this...how are you possible? Wands can't talk.

I'm also a staff.

Of course you are.

You've never known power like me. The moment you touched me I knew the spells your hand has cast. Fireworks. Petals. Rainbows. They're not real spells. You're just a party witch, aren't you? Not a real witch.

Excuse me, she snapped back, but some of us have to make do to pay the bills. Unless you're going to chip in for groceries and stop being so narky, maybe I should throw you out the window.

You won't do that.

Oh? You know that, do you? Don't tell me, you're so extra special that you can see the future?

If possible, the wand laughed. Even if you are a party witch, at least you've got spirit. No, you're going to help me find my true master. Now they...they know a thing or two about magic. They're the one who made me sentient. Intrigued?

...maybe. But why should I help you?

My master is kind. As a reward for my return, I'm sure they will train you to better your powers. That's one of the reasons I chose you, party witch; I can sense your desire for more.

More laughter. That's a cute thought. So...do we have a deal?

how did they get their wand?: mabel recieved their wand
as a custom gift from an old friend, nicola, when
they moved away from their hometown. it held no magical
power when they received it but with the addition of the
moonstone in the middle it became able to do small spells.
it isn't much, but the sentiment and the care put into it
means mabel carries it everywhere.
