Behind The Door
By, Raveron
The morning came as the sun shined brightly down on Earth, as the sunlit hit Raveron's face, he slowly opened up his eyes. It was the day he moved into his great grandparents house. He only remembered vaguely of his great grandparents house and that it was deep in the forest where there was no one around. He got up and stretched as he yawned loudly, he had already packed up his things for the move and were already in the movers van. "I wonder why they left the house to me. I rarely even spoke to them, let alone hangout with them. I've only met them twice and that was back when I was.. what? F or six years old." He rolled up his sleeping bag as he tied it in place and picked up, he then grabbed the keys and headed out the door. "I'm not gonna get there till dark. It's nearly a ten hours drive to their house. I know I should've woken up way before dawn, but I couldn't sleep. Not only that, my great grandparents died nearly five years ago when I turned seventeen years old. Couldn't they have given their house to their son?" Raveron drove past the neighborhood as people, trees, houses and pets blurred by from the van's fast movement. He drove until he could see the road that lead up to his great grandparents house, as he slowed down to unlock the gate, he put the movers van in park and slowly opened the door. It was already getting dark out, as he stepped out of the movers van a car was passing by as they slowed to a stop. "Hey! You're the Vanquitic grandson aren't ye?!" Raveron turned to face the car and person who yelled that, "uh.. yeah. Who are you" The person in the car chuckled and said, "ah yeah guess you wouldn't remember me. I'm Nickelson. Your great grandparents neighbor. I'm about two miles down the road. You be careful now, you hear?" As they drove off. "Well that was strange." Raveron turned around and walked to the gate as he unlocked the lock and swung the gates open. He headed back to the van as he drove into the woods a bit and got out again to re-lock the gates. He drove slowly down the dirt road as he hit bumps and the van bounced around, it took nearly thirty minutes before he could see his great grandparents house. He finally made it and parked the movers van out front, "well.. I guess I should go inside. I'll unpack tomorrow when I wake up." He grabbed his sleeping bag and headed to the front door, as he was unlocking the front door he heard a rustle in the woods, he turned his head quickly to see if he saw anyone or anything, but all he saw was the trees and bushes, he shrugged it off as he headed inside and locked the door behind him. Raveron found the light switch and turned on the lights. He looked around looking at all of the photographs and pictures. He then placed his sleeping bag on the couch, he went to the kitchen and saw a note on the table. It read:
Dear Raveron,
I assume that you have made it to your new house. I'm sorry we didn't see each other more before me and your grandma passed away. We hope you enjoy our home like you did when you were younger. We left your room as it was way back in the golden days of your younghood. We hope you will keep our home safe, please do not open the door in the basement. We have put a note on the door saying "do not open". You will see why you mustn't open that door. Be safe.
Love,
Grandpa Jury
"Don't open the door. What does he mean by that?" He stopped to think for a moment before he said, "oh well. I'm going to bed any ways." As he got up and went back into the living room as he laid down on the couch unable to fall asleep with all the creaks and odd noises coming from the old house. As he looked out the window his mind running wild with thoughts of what his grandfather meant in his letter. He thought to himself, "don't open the door" as he started to fall asleep on the couch he saw a face at the window and he jumped up, but when he looked again, nothing was there. He chuckled to himself a bit, "hehe just a figment of my imagination" he said to himself as he went back to sleep. The next morning he woke up and was unpacking his things from the moving van and once again he heard a rustle in the woods, "hello. Is anyone there?" No replies. He continued to unpack and as he got his last box into the house he heard scratching from down in the basement. Raveron slowly made his way to the basement door and slowly turned the handle of the door, he opened it up just a crack and saw nothing but darkness. He opened the basement door as it creaked from being so old, he turned the light switch on and slowly made his way down to the basement. He looked around and saw his grandparents old things, lots of old junk from the civil wars to piles of records. Boxes of photographs, journals, maps and even souvenirs, as he looked around and turned to face the other direction a black cat jumped out and hissed, Raveron fell backwards into a mirror as it shattered. "That damn cat! Why is he even still alive, the necker out lived my grandparents!" As he got up and faced to see the mirror, he noticed a lock behind the mirror. "I wonder…" before he finished his sentence he moved the mirror to see a locked door, it was heavily locked with chains, bolts and even screws. He placed his hand on the door as it started to shake and rattle and an eerie voice said, "Raaaaaaavvvvveeeerrrooooonnn" it sounded just like his grandfather. He ran out of the basement so fast as he slammed the basement door and locked it, "what the heck was that?!" He ran out of the house and got into the moving van to return it into town. After hours staying in town he finally returned to his grandparents house that now belonged to him. Raveron contemplated going inside after what happened earlier, he turned off his cars engine and headed inside, as he unlocked the front door a voice from behind him said, "I'm behind you." Raveron turned around so quickly but nothing was there, he got inside and slammed the door shut locking it, "what the hell is going on here?! There's gotta be answers around here!" He started rummaging through his grandparents study and found an old journal, he opened it up and turned to page one and started reading,
January 18, 1989
Today me and my wife, Lilac, moved into an old farmhouse that we played in when we were kids. It seemed like a nice house to raise kids in, have livestock, and some other animals, we started making money by growing corn, carrots, making oat, grain, and other things. We've been working hard to keep this farm going.

It's been a fews days since we moved in here, we are having a kid. We aren't sure if it's a boy or a girl yet, I'm hoping a boy, but my wife wants a girl. The farm business is doing good and we are making lots of money.
Raveron turned the page four times and continued to read,

We had a boy right here in the farmhouse. Our neighbors the Banadocks, Nickleson's wife, Shar, helped my wife give birth to our son, Devon. He's pretty darn healthy if I say so myself.
"Huh weird. He doesn't write in the journal till my dad's first birthday".
September 18, 1990
Today is Devon's first birthday, but we've been noticing strange things around the house, like; hearing voices, doors slamming, and Devon talking to someone that he says is his friend. Now, I don't know what it is, but I'm sure it ain't good.
Raveron flipped through the pages of the journal until he got to a page that had dried blood on it.

Before I die I want to say we found out what it was. Our son had moved out and got married, but the thing that was causing us all harm was a demon. A very powerful demon. We got a priest but it didn't work, it killed the priest than my wife. It's after me now.
After that last journal the pages were blank. Raveron was shocked, "a demon? This can't be right. Father said they died in a horrible farming accident." He went down to the basement to the locked door, "I don't know if I should unlock it."
