the dark forest doesn't have a whole lot of ways to get around the territory - just another way to torment & frustrate the cats that reside in it, really. trying to walk from a to b is often turned into a fool's errand, as the landscape of the forest seems to twist and shape itself around you to keep you from getting to your destination. many new members of the dark forest fall victim to the frustration spawned from the world itself changing under your paws specifically to spite you; the older, more established members, however, have their own methods of escaping the changing terrain.

pitchblaze's favorite method? make the terrain work for him instead of against him. only a few members of the dark forest have truly mastered the ability to knead their paws into the shifting landscape, raise hills and trees from nothing & shape their own territory; he uses it to craft gliders from the unbroken canopy of tree boughs, to sail smoothly through the air on newly-bent trees creating bridges and the winds blowing just enough to move him closer towards his goals, his paws skimming the air above but never touching the accursed ground. after all, who needs to walk against the current when you could simply change the source of it and ride with it? it's much faster, and the thrill of the world around you warping to your will, carrying you to your destination rather than trying to inhibit you from it... he'd never give that up for anyone. would you give up a taste of the world bending to your paws, pretending as if you were the first cat to ever give yourself wings?

(when it's the closest you've ever been to controlling something, it's doubtful you'd ever give it up, either.)

Prompt: Living in a forest with a diet of scrawny animals makes for a fairly athletic-looking cat. But, of course, running and walking around the territory can be boring, even if it's quite easy.

Embergaze found a new way to get from point A to point B. Trees. They leap up the trunk, clawing the bark if they must, and crawl upwards until they find an adjoining branch attached to a different tree. Sure it's tedious and everyone thinks they're crazy, but so far they're found 3 routes to get to the lagoon, which they're quite proud of. Embergaze is thinking about marking the branches with berry juice for future needs. The more time they spend in the upper foliage, the happy and more comfortable they get!

Among the desert, there aren't a lot of ways to travel - much less comfortable ways to do so. Nonetheless, Smolderingcrow's clanmates have came up with a way to do so, to make traveling safer, easier and even enjoyable for some. Carpet rides. And no, these aren't the type of 'magic' carpet rides, but the idea is quite similar. Using a carpet (or anything generally light and capable of holding a cat's weight, such as a basket), the clan trains groups of birds (mostly owls due to the clan's nocturnal habits) to carry carpets with cats among them, mostly when having to travel long distances. Smolderingcrow adores the scenery and feeling of freedom when among the night sky. She truly can see the world in a way unlike any other.

from the time ze was a few moons old, walking had begun to become boring for ivytail. they had enjoyed clawing zir way up the big oak that marks the centre of camp since ze was able to, and when zir mentor decided to teach zem how to climb trees properly - and move between them. and it soon became one of ivy's favourite things to do - climbing zir way up into the tree, finding the right branch and leaping from it. there's something so freeing about those momentary airborne moments - almost like flying. ze spends as much of zir time up in the trees as possible, and quickly earned zir suffix -tail for zir skill of moving flawlessly between the trees and hunting up in them. every jump is still a thrill. ivy does dream of actually flying someday - maybe ze will find a nice big bird nest and find a hatchling to raise and maybe someday ride to see the forest from above.
