Cat Name: Shrewcry
Gender: Male
Rank: Hunter
Clan: FrostClan
Age: 18 moons
Prompt:

Little Shrew was an anxious kit. Everything was scary - darkness, Twolegs, foxes, other cats, storms, regular rain, rats, mice... shrews. If he could think of a reason it was dangerous, he was terrified of it. This left him with a lot of things to be terrified of.

He could remember one night, a particularly bad one. It was storming, the tree they were living in at the time had a squirrel move in recently - a huge squirrel, mind you - and he'd gotten a splinter running away from the giant squirrel after stepping a bit too close to one of its buried acorns.

"It's gonna get infected!" He'd cried, even after his mother had picked the bit of wood out with her teeth and licked his pad clean.

But then she'd swept him and his sister up in her tail, pulling him into a safe bundle of sweet scents and warm fur. His sister had trodden on his little tail accidentally, but he didn't even mind. She was only stepping closer to snuggle, anyway.

Even if the tree was scary, with its squirrels and splintery wood, it shielded them from the pelting rain. His mother groomed them both, slowly, soothingly, until he'd felt his eyes droop.

His sister was soon asleep, leaning heavily on both him and their mother. But he couldn't - the thunder was too loud, and the rain might knock acorns onto their heads, and oh, what if the tree was struck by lightning-

The soothing lap of his mother caught him each time his thoughts ran away. He looked up at her, his wide, anxious eyes staring into her warm, loving ones.

"It's alright, Shrew. We're safe." She'd tucked him deeper into her soft fur. "I love you."

Shrew's eyes watered, but his fur finally fell flat. He finally relaxed, safe against his mother's pelt.

His sister murmured something in her sleep. He didn't know what she said, but the soft sounds of his family were just what he needed right now, so it was still comforting.

It still took him a little bit to get to sleep, with the thunderstorm raging on around them. But his mother never took her eyes off of him, and she promised she wouldn't go to sleep until he did. She cuddled him when the thunder was too scary, and she sang him soft lullabies when his eyes began to droop again.

Eventually, he did get to sleep, warm and safe with his family despite the storm.

And for once, his sleep wasn't fitful. He slept soundly, knowing he was loved.

Cat Name: Robin
Gender: female
Rank: healer
Clan: Tribe of Whispering Trees
Age: 17 moons
Prompt:

Robin and her sister, Mapleleaf, grew up away from other cats. Their mother was a stray, living near the twoleg places by the edge of the forest. From stories their mother told them, they knew their mother used to live with other cats in something she called a clan, but was forced to leave. She always told the two kittens that they had been named after things she loved during her time spent with her old clan. Mapleleaf was named after a type of tree that was common where their mother grew up, and the name 'leaf' came from the naming style the warriors in her clan used. Robin was named after a type of bird, a robin, because they always used to sing in her forest home.

Robin and Mapleleaf's mother taught them to be wary of humans in the twoleg place, as well as the other dangers in the forest. One day, their mother was wandering through the twoleg places and was captured by twolegs. The two young cats, who would have been apprentices if they had lived in a clan, looked for her, but didn't find her. Eventually they were forced to move on after several weeks, and the two decided the forest sounded safer than the twoleg place. So the two of them left, traveling into the forest.

Things were rough at first. Their mother had taught them some basic hunting skills, but the two of them were still learning. The two siblings had survived near the twoleg place from the mice they had been able to catch and the twoleg food they had found. Living in the forest was more difficult than either Robin or her sister had anticipated. The forest was much larger and prey was not always easily found every day. It took a little while, but eventually their hunting skills improved, and they discovered places where it was common to find prey. The two young cats were also able to find a small cave, which they claimed as their den.

On one nice day, the two sisters went hunting together. As usual, now that they knew their forest home well, the two cats split up and went different directions at a small clearing. The two were never far apart, but they found that they were usually more successful when they hunted on the opposite sides of the small clearing. As Robin walked through the trees, her ears pricked for any sound of prey among the forest leaves, she caught an unfamiliar scent. The scent seemed faint, so Robin figured it was probably something they had came through the area a while ago, and kept hunting. Eventually she saw a rabbit, eating some grass near the roots of a tree. Robin ducked lower into the grass, making sure to keep hidden, and silently crept forward. Suddenly she sprang out of the grass and the rabbit began to run. Robin chased the rabbit, and quickly closed the distance between them. She pounced, her claws grabbing her prey, and after a few moments, trotted back to the location where she typically met up with her sister after hunting. She set her prey down at her feet and waited.

Suddenly she heard a snap from the bushes behind her. Robin turned her head and saw two giant amber eyes staring at her. She sprang to her paws, but the fox was much faster. The creature jumped out of the bushes and pushed the young cat onto her back with its paws. Pinned to the ground, Robin was too startled to call out for help and she desperately slashed at the fox's face with her claws. The fox snarled, but then suddenly let out a yelp of pain and turned. Robin saw her sister clinging to the back of the fox with her claws, and biting the fox's ear. Robin quickly got to her paws and sprang forward to help, grabbing the creature's leg with her teeth. The fox shook Mapleleaf off, but her sister quickly got to her feet and swiped her claws across the fox's face. The fox yelped with pain, and shook Robin off of its leg with a force that sent her flying into a nearby rock. Robin heard a hiss from Mapleleaf, a low growl from the fox, and then suddenly the creature ran. Mapleleaf ran towards Robin, panting from the battle, and helped Robin to her paws. As she got to her feet, Robin felt a sharp pain in her front right leg and froze. Mapleleaf immediately was against her side, supporting Robin so she didn't put weight on her injured leg. "We can't stay here," Mapleleaf meowed, looking concerned and a little scared. "It might come back. I'll help you back to the den. Then we can look at your leg."

Together they made their way back to the den. Once there, Robin carefully sat down in her nest, keeping her weight off of her front right leg. Together, they figured out that her leg didn't seem broken, but they figured it'd probably be good to support Robin's leg and for her to not move it a lot. Robin, being better with herbs, told her sister what herbs would be helpful and what they looked like, and tried to relax while her sister went out to look for them. It didn't take long for Mapleleaf to return with the herbs and supplies. Robin carefully placed a stick next to her leg, and Mapleleaf wrapped it in cobwebs so that it was tight against Robin's leg. After eating some herbs to help with the pain, Robin began to feel drowsy. Mapleleaf curled up next to her, watching her sister as she fell asleep.

While Robin's leg was healing, Mapleleaf took care of her. She would bring prey back to their den and the two siblings would share it. When Robin needed herbs or supplies, Mapleleaf would go gather them and bring them to her sister. She would help swap the cobwebs around Robin's leg when needed as well. As Robin's leg healed more and they removed the stick and cobwebs, Mapleleaf would help her sister go on short walks to build up her strength. Thankfully, the fox had not been seen since that one day.

Robin and Mapleleaf were walking around in the forest one day, working on building Robin's strength up again, when Robin saw a mouse among the leaves by a tree. Robin nudged her sister and nodded at the mouse. Wanting to try out her hunting skills again, Robin ducked down into the grass and crept forward. Suddenly she pounced, and returned a moment later with the mouse in her jaws. Feeling accomplished and happy to have been able to hunt again, Robin and Mapleleaf happily chatted as they made their way back to their den. The two cats shared the prey once inside, and Robin returned to her nest and curled up sleepily. Without Mapleleaf, there was no way Robin would have survived the encounter with the fox, or her injuries from the fight. The two sisters had always been close since they were kittens, and had always looked out for each other. As Mapleleaf curled up next to her, Robin felt so grateful to have such a great sister and friend, and snuggled closer. She felt safe by her sister's side, comfortable next to her in their den. Robin drifted off to sleep, her dreams full of the memories and fun adventures that her and Mapleleaf had as kits.

      Prompt:

Does anyone truly know what it means to love someone? Truthfully, yes. Its only a matter of finding such a person. Or for some...realizing it all together.

"Mommy! Help me, please! Don't let me go!" A high-pitched voice yelled at the shrinking form of a feline, rapidly disappearing into the distance. The tiny bundle of fur wailed, wriggling about as he attempted to free himself. The cat who held him by the scruff sighed, gripping the kit a bit more to ensure he didn't drop it. "Please, quiet down...your mother...it'll be okay." The tom mumbled out after a moment, ears ringing from all the continuous wailing. He could only hope that they'd manage to return to camp, before they ran across any trouble.
XXXXThe tom finally managed to make it to camp, though the kit had somehow managed to cry the entire way back. Ferris carried him to one of the warden's, ears laid back in hopes the kit would stop soon, lest they disturb one of the mothers or even worse, their offspring. Please, stop crying...just for a moment...
XXXXFinally, they entered the den. One of the mothers was there, her offspring currently playing together off to one side. Ferris sighed through his nose, tail waving in greeting. Finally, the young kit seemed to calm down, at least for a moment. He quieted, scanning the area with wide eyes. "Good evening, Lily." He greeted, carefully setting the tom upon the ground. The warden turned to face him, her eyes alighting with surprise. "Oh hel- Ferris...Where did the kit come from? Surely, this isn't one of the escapees?" The molly asked, referring to the few that were surprisingly skilled at escaping from the wardens den. "No no..." A look of sorrow briefly appeared on his face. "He's..."

"Who? Who is he?" Lily questioned further, urging him onward with his speech. The tom gazed down at the kit, pulling him closer instinctively, only for the young tom to fight against him. "He certainly can't be yours with that attitude!" The queen half-joked, now casting him a look of suspicion. "No..." The tom said once more, giving her a weak smile. "He's Azalea's..." He managed, grimacing a tad. Lily's eyes widened, something of a mix between apologetic and sorrowful appearing among her eyes. "Ferris...no..."
XXXX"M-Mommy? Where is she?" The tom spoke suddenly, overhearing his mother's name. He tried to escape once more from the tom's grasp, but Ferris held him tight. "She's not here Frisk...she's not here..."

The following days were....exhausting to say the least. With Frisk in the care of Lily, Ferris occasionally visited him whenever able, but Frisk would always push him away. "Go away!" He'd cried, warily turning to Lily as he did so. The older tom would spare a glance with the warden, before leaving, though he'd always leave something behind for the young tom.
XXXX"Why don't you like Ferris?" The warden asked one evening, her gaze warm and welcoming. The young tom took a moment to think over whether he should reply or not, but merely said, "I don't like him." And nothing more. The molly sighed before leaving him be.
XXXXThough, Frisk's story was only known to Ferris and Lily it would soon be known by more than the two. His fellow denmates had been watching him closely, whispering among one another about why he was always so angry and slept by himself, hardly interacting with anyone if he could help it. Finally, two of them approached the prickly tom. "Hi!" One called out, while the other poked him. "Go away!" He yelled at them, but the two merely backed a short distance away from him. "Didn't I tell you? He's always so angry and for what?!" Frisk's frown deepened at the reply, his pelt prickling. "No I'm not! Now leave me alone!" The other kits still only stood there, casting amused glances between each other. "Why? You can't tell us what to do! And your mom isn't even around to help you!" Just then, Ferris arrived at the last words spoken - a horrible time no doubt.

Frisk's demeanor dropped in an instant, wide eyes drooping, alongside his ears and tail. "Y-Yes she can! she'll be here! I know she will! Mommy!" He cried out. But alas...she did not appear. He continued, but the other kits merely laughed at him. Ferris then approached, standing between the two. "Alright, enough. Leave him alone. And don't make jokes like that...those are painful beyond belief. Now go." He said to them. The kits glanced at one another before leaving, allowing Ferris to turn to Frisk. "Frisk-"
XXXXThe tom cut him off. "No! You're not my mom! I don't want to talk to you!" He cried, backing away from the tom. Ferris sighed heavily, taking a step closer before hesitating. "Okay, Frisk. But if you ever need to talk..."

Time and time again, Ferris stood up and protected Frisk from various things, cats and otherwise. Even so, the young tom always ran away or yelled at him to leave in the end. Again and again the cycled played over and over. And after one time too many...Frisk had had enough.
XXXX"Stop it! Just stop it!" He cried one evening to the tom. "I don't want your help! I don't want to talk to you! I just want Mommy back!" Ferris was silent for a moment, though the kit continued. "If you want to help me so bad, take me back to her! If you won't then leave me-"
XXXX"I can't." The tom replied at last. Frisk paused for a moment, green eyes wide. "What do you mean you can't?! You took me from her! You didn't want me to be with her! You-" Ferris gave dropped, though he cut the tom off. "You don't understand! Your mother...Azalea is dead. Your mother...is asleep, just like how we left her...but forever."

The young tom had fled after Ferris's words, avoiding him at all costs. surely, he had to be lying. His mother, asleep forever? Never.
XXXXBut alas, it wasn't until the tom was alongside some of the hunters during training sometime later and one caught a jerboa. The young tom hadn't left its side since finding it, merely gazing at it with a worried expression. "What's wrong, Frisk?" One of the hunters asked. "The...jerboa...I think something's wrong." The feline gazed at him oddly, before shrugging. "No, that's just what happens after you catch it. Its...dead now." And at that, Ferris's words came to him. And so did the emotions.

Ferris found the tom later that night, carefully approaching the young tom. "If you want me to go...then tell me. But if you'd like any comfort..." The young tom didn't reply, allowing the older one to settle beside him. After a moment of silence, Ferris spoke. "I know it hurts. It hurts me too...that's why I've been trying to help you. I can't bring Azeala back...but I can offer my love and support. You know I've done all those things because I love you, right?"
XXXXFrisk was quiet for a moment. "Mom didn't love me then...she left me." Ferris's eyes widened, heart breaking. "No, no. You see...times like these are complicated. But I assure you, that she loved you. That's why she told me if anything ever happened to her...to take care of you for her." He pulled the young tom close. "Did she really? Did you really...do those things because...you loved me...?" He asked after awhile. "I'm sure of it. I'm here if you ever need me. Always."

The two stayed together for some time that night. And for the first time, Frisk felt...safe. He was able to sleep next to another and no longer held anger toward the tom. There'd be a lot of healing in the future...but there'd be someone to help him along, even so.
