Prompt:Dove's fur bristled with excitement as cats around him muttered and gathered after Ursa Major Tallpine had called a meeting. His mentor looked at him with warm eyes, he had passed his Canis Major exam with flying colours, even scaring off an unexpected visitor of a fox during his exam. Ursa Major Tallpine cleared his throat, and the clan fell silent as they looked up at him.
"Dove, please step forward" Dove stood up and walked out of the semi-circle of cats, staring up at his Ursa Major.
"You are an honored member of our clan, and an incredibly brave cat, despite being smaller than most cats you are stronger more daring than many could ever be, Typhooncall has told me all about your exam, and how you bravely fought off a fox" at the mention of him fighting off a fox, the clan erupted into cheers, Tallpine letting them have their moment before calling for them to be quiet.
"Dove, from this day forward you will be known as Littledove. Let Starclan and your patron hear your voice, call out your new name" The clan was silent as he stood up, turning his head towards the sky, now starting to darken as sun fall approached.
"Littledove!" he called out, beaming with pride as his clan joined in, calling out their Canis Major's new name. When Tallpine called out his new name, the clan was silent once more and Littledove sat down.
"Littledove, you are now a Canis Major of Celestial clan, uphold our code and represent our clan well" Tallpine beamed with pride as he stared down at his newly appointed Canis Major who bowed and crossed a paw over his chest.
"Thank you, Ursa Major Tallpine. I vow to protect my clan with my life, honor our code, and respect our ancestors and gods" Littledove stood up and Tallpine climbed down from the rock he stood on, coming to Littledove's level as he touched their noses together. The clan cheered trot up to Littledove, muttering their congratulations, brushing up against him and butting foreheads with him as they began to celebrate the appointing of a new Canis Major.
Several moons later Littledove rose earlier than most, like he normally did, stepping out of the Canis Major den as he stretched, shaking the morning dew from his pelt as he turned to the rising sun, Tallpine laid sprawled over the rock in front of his den, where he called his meetings, lazily grooming his fur as he enjoyed the peace of the morning. They made brief eye contact and nodded to each other.
"I'm heading out to hunt this morning" Littledove told his Ursa Major, who nodded and signaled that he was approved to leave camp. Littledove bowed and trotted out of camp, breaking into a sprint as he pushed through the entrance, his paws barely touching the ground until he skid to a stop on the beach, watching the seagulls lazily peck at the sand. He crouched down and watched them, a determined expression on his face as he crept forward and leapt, landing right on top of the now struggling and squawking gull, sending the rest of them scattering in a flurry of feathers as he bit into the neck of the bird, muttering a "thank you starclan" as he pulled away, picking the bird up in his jaws and hiding it in a bush for later.
Littledove trotted across the beach, musing over his future as a Canis Major, proving himself more and more to his clan, becoming a strong Canis Major worthy of praise from even his patron. Maybe one day he would be appointed as Ursa Minor, and live long enough to see himself receive the blessing from Star Clan, becoming the next Ursa Major.
"Ursa Major Littledove" he mused, a proud smile spreading across his lips as he nodded. "I like the sound of that! that'll be my next goal, proving I am a worthy Ursa Minor!"
From the shadows in the bushes where sand met grass, a she-cat with blazing red eyes watched on in disgust, her lips drawn back into a snarl as she watched the smaller cat, her claws digging into the dirt.
Not if I have anything to say about it, she hissed to herself as she got up, furiously racking her claws along a tree trunk, leaving deep slashes in the bark, the sound ringing out across the beach, snatching the attention of Littledove, who stopped in his tracks, staring off in the direction he heard the sound from, worry spreading across his face.
