Prompt: When Clover was young it felt like she was never alone. She had her family and her teachings and of course she had her best friend
Tandi. The two were so close that it was almost never a case of Hello Clover, or Hello Tandi but always the two together. Joined at the hip, two horns of a stag as the sayings used to go. When it came time to decide their futures they pretty much decided together, they would be healers.
They planned their whole lives so that they wouldn't have to be apart too often, where the ravages of time could make them drift apart. They chose the same healing classes at the same times, making sacrifices for each other, turning down a party invite when the other was sick, turning down a date with the lion who once talked bad about their bestie.
And then they graduated from the healing school on the same night, sharing their graduation meals and celebration.
Clover knows that she would be so different without Tandi. Sure, she mightve decided to be a healer, but she would've gone for a more cub specific route rather than more general like Tandi. She would've gone on the date with Uli. But she wouldn't be as understanding either, she wouldn't have gained so much confidence without Tandi.
Tandi had made her, and she Tandi.
But... They were older now. Not playful cubs or dramatic teens. They were qualified now and the whole terrifying world lay at their paws. All they needed to do was find a healerless Pride and be set for life.
But Tandi was brave while Clover was still unsure. Maybe a little more time at home, or just short adventures into the unknown first. Tandi wasn't so patient. The day after the graduation she had her things packed and was ready to leave.
And it was time for Tandi to be just Tandi.
And it was time for Clover to be just Clover.
It hurt, especially when Clover turned to talk to someone no longer there, when every horned Lion made her skip forward before realising she was long gone. They sent mail, even as Tandi went far further, into more wild lands than Clover could imagine.
Perhaps one day she would be brave enough to join, bur for now she lived vicariously.
