///He remembered, when she was born, thinking that her stripes might have been pulled right from her fur if their parents groomed her too much or too roughly.
///Short hairs from toe to tip, tail to nose; dark on silver, just like his. Siblings, through and through.
///They had their differences, yes - There was no such spotting on her fur as there was on his, or at least, what spots she had bled into the lines running through her fur, not so much dots in their own right as merely breaks in the patterns. Her fur was lighter as a whole as well, and the line where the grey tones met her light underside was always more defined. And the tip of her tail was darker, and thinner, too, until it puffed out at the end like a lion's. He'd always liked that fluff of hers, remembered playing with it with her when they were little. And the inside of her ears were a dark, shady color all the way through, so unlike his own.
///Still, in spite of their differences, they were brother and sister, and it showed.
///But her stripes... Above all, he remembered her stripes. They were so much smaller and more delicate than his. Thin bands of shadow running down her sides... He'd been utterly convinced that she would lose them someday, that they would come off on their mother's tongue, in the same way that berries stain one's mouth and fur with their juices, or that they would blow away in the breeze, never to be seen again.
///He wondered now if that might truly be the case. To train beneath the gods... surely that changes a cat. What might have changed in that time? How long had it been since he last saw her? She was only a kitten then, her eyes not even fully changed from blue to what they would eventually become. Or... perhaps the blue had stayed, as they had for him. He didn't know, couldn't recall. Had they started to change by the time she left?
///He hoped that he would find out soon.
