Hyena Name: Aicusa
Hyena Gender: Female
Pride: Mystic IslesPride Status: Prompt:Aicusa was a performer first and foremost. And as such her image had to fit her performance and add to the mystery of who she was and what she did in her troupe. When she swirled sand around her in mini dust devils the feather fluttered along, and the bones and beads jingled a clacking tune. For a moment the only thing one could think of was the life of a rattle snake, the sand rasping like its scales, the skittering of her accessories, the warning rattle before it struck.
She had gotten the feather from a Prairie falcon, a bead from every canyon she had conquered, the bones in her bracelet were from her first hunt ever, a kangaroo rat’s tibia, her first hunt for another, a prairie dog’s rib, and her last hunt before she left, a badger’s femur.
And yet, often it is her painted markings that mean more to her. Every morning she paints them anew, painstakingly trying to replicate every line and shape, removing yesterday's smudges. For unlike her other trophies this one did not speak of what she had achieved, but rather who she was.
The one over her eyes were from her mother and grandmother. It was a rather superstitious tradition, but Aicusa loved it anyway. It was to ward off evil, and see the world how it truly was. Aicusa’s had been uniquely chosen for her and had added benefits of keeping sand from ones eyes, and allowing one to guess the time more accurately (Aicusa had been late so many times the two had decided it wise). The ones on her shoulder were from her father and brother, her best friend and first boyfriend, her auntie and uncle. They spoke of her personality and what they loved about her. Brave. Strong. Kind. Just. They inspired her and made her proud of who she was. She wouldnt let them fade, no matter how long it was since she had last seen her family. No matter how long she had to keep repainting them herself. (342/350)
