Ferox Welsh Pony #698

Postby discontinued. » Tue Mar 09, 2021 3:22 am

Ferox Welsh Ponies (pron. feh-roks) are a hardy pony that originated in Wales. They have fine heads with slightly dished noses, short, muscular legs and stocky bodies. While small - averaging 12 hands - feroxes make good riding horses and are sure-footed owing to the mountains of their origin country. Ferox Welsh Ponies, their name meaning fierce, are known for their big personalities, including a streak of bravery that seems to run through the entire breed. Feroxes are strong but easily handled, making them ideal for all riders. They are frequently seen in bay, black, chestnut and grey, but many other colours have been recorded to appear in the breed, including appaloosa, paint markings and dilutions like champagne.

Competition: Dream has always been a little antsy when it comes to new scenarios, which can definitely be a challenge when she enters competitions in a new place. The method her owner helped establish with her is to have a constant routine when approaching these new situations. Every time they have to go someplace new they always jump right into their care habits, starting with an especially attentive grooming session. With extra scratches and head pats, just how she loves. Then, her mane and tail are prepped for the occasion, however they've decided beforehand, while her owner recounts one of Dream's favorite stories. The sound of their voice is incredibly soothing and puts her in the best mood. After that they go through all their tack to double check it's looking good and ready to go. Really it is because they've already made sure, but seeing it all laid out again helps Dream relax. Then they tack up, during which her owner tends to whistle a tune, although whether that's on purpose or just a habit of theirs she's not sure. Once they're in the ring and strutting their stuff, it's much easier to fall into her training with the guide of her rider's steady hand. At the end of it all she gets her favorite snack of green apple slices while she gets untacked. If the day was especially difficult sometimes her owner will even stay with her late until she falls asleep. The routine has always helped to put her mind at ease, even in other new scenarios or if there's a change to her environment. As long as she knows her rider will always be there to comfort and take care of her she can adapt to pretty much anything. <3
