- If there is one thing Kentaro knows well it's that there's no scaring someone scarier than you, which makes them the best people to befriend. He wasn't talking about size either; he was pretty hard to beat after all, and to him it's the small ones who are the most dangerous. Though he may be big and he may be blunt, he would never be able to trick you into shooting yourself in the foot and then have you thank him for it. No, that was his best friend, Cerise.
Small and young, she was brilliant and by far the scariest person he knew. They'd met one day after she found him crying by himself after a bully made fun of him, and never left since. He'd seen many a protective verbal smack down from her on his behalf, and as bad as he felt for them in the end, he long learned not to try and stop her. That would only lead to an emotional smack down, where he'd end up crying on her shoulder about all the cruel things people have said to him, and eventually leading them to get ice cream. It was far easier just going straight to the ice cream and cutting out the embarrassing middle man of him getting snot all over her shirt because he never has a napkin with him. Crying there was no shame in, but snotting on his best friend? Unacceptable.
In the end it was through her that he made friends too. All her friends were friends with him; at least they were nice to him and defended him when push came to shove, which was all that mattered to him. They didn't need to all be best friends; them sharing Cerise was enough. But more than that there were a number of people who heard Cerise and decided to try talking to him, and sometimes they ended up getting along really well. Though technically Cerise didn't introduce him or anything, she made him not only look less scary to other people, but made him feel less scary too.
He never had to worry about being too big around her, or clumsy, or dangerous. She never flinched away, but reminded him to be gentle with her since she was a lot smaller, which helped him grow accustomed to the size difference between himself and others. He stopped breaking things on accident, and began to develop more habits like those around him. And not just to make friends, but because he finally understood why people did them! The pinky thing had never made sense to him before he started doing it; it helped his hand fit around the glass easier, which is what watching Cerise helped him figure out. And a handkerchief? No need to be worried about snotting in public if you've got one of those handy; he can thank Tooru for that, who gave him his first one ever! Refused to take it back; what a good friend.
