I'm not sure what more to say than what this letter will contain. Here's a few pictures too! I did it, I tracked down every rumor, scavenged for every clue, wrote down every story- I know it took me a while, but we're headed home now!
I can't wait for you to meet her! I know she will fit right in with the herd, too. our rag-tag band of mischievous misfits. She's rough, and it will take time, but she will come around. I see a greatness in her that I can't really explain. But she needs me. and ya know... I think I need her too,dear.Well, I'm sure you, too, have heard her stories, and you're probably wondering why I even took the risk of tracking down such a ''Dangerous" horse...
This poor old gal really isn't all that bad. She's been through quite a bit in her fifteen years, more than any horse should have to endure,certainly! Her unfortunate deck she'd been dealt hasn't broken her, thankfully, but she remains to be a handful- a night-mare, if you will. Not all the rumors are true- no she hasn't been eating hunters and campers, nor can she breathe fire or shapeshift.She is no Wendigo- (but the name does have a ring to it, doesn't it?) The stories, though, rang with truths, and go as such:
She started with a promising career- swift, light on her feet, bold- though as fate would see fit, she was sold to unkind hands. She left there with scars to prove it. It took her lip a month to heal. Her second owners weren't much an improvement- and add in this the distrust and betrayal she already felt with humans- well, there you have the mixings of conflict . By that time, She had resorted to biting and kicking,lashing out in defiance, and that-for them- just wouldn't do. Their punishment caused her to run blind in the dark and bust through a weak fence. She just kept running until she sought refuge in a forest some miles away. Her shoulder took only a week to heal, and thankfully she never caught infection.
But she was new to the wilderness- an unwelcomed alien presence in the woods. And those next few years weren't any kinder. Not a month in, and she'd seen her first bear. He left her a nasty present on her hip- and she didn't soon forget. She learned, and survived. She was swift, light on her feet, bold.
After a while, campers and hunters alike would run across her path. And with a terrible squealing scream she would run, or kick, or bite- none could catch her. Rumors flew of a demon mare- a real beast straight from Diomedes. But I simply didn't believe that to be true. As you well know,I camped out here for weeks- gaining trust, respect- learning boundaries and respecting them. Don't get me wrong, in the middle of the night, and that shrill, bone rattling scream rings out- yeah, it's scary.Okay, it was terrifying. But , well, as you can see, with a little faith, love, and determination- even the scariest beast can be befriended. With our care she will no longer feel bound,nor betrayed, no longer feel fear- with our herd she will be free, and more importantly,herself. She's quite something, my Wendi. She is swift, light on her feet, bold. My terrible nightmare, well, she is many things. But now, now she's loved.
