When breeding two Owlats, their main form does not have to be the same. The chance of whether their main form is cat or owl is 50/50, unless the artist decides themself.
There can be up to three eggs in a brood if their main form is an owl, and up to four kits in a litter if their main form is a cat. But in every group of offspring there can only be four Owlats.
If their main form is an owl, they will have three stages: egg, hatchling, and adult. The artist will age them up -hopefully- when you ask them to.
If their main form is a cat, they will have only two stages: kit and adult. When the kit(s) are aged up, each will have a separate adult reference and separate oekaki's.
The parents do not need to be of opposite gender.
