Poem:
Metal clangs awoke with a start,
Uneasiness edging lips to part,
To seek the attacker, intruder,
Yet hollowness of her room's bones pursued her.
Wind's breath shrieked against bars,
Flighty hum of bristling cars.
Ghosts of her past's quarrels,
Reviving against her better laurels.
Slumber eluded her crusted eyes,
Darting instead to chastise.
Racking up her supposed crimes,
Those she couldn't repay in lifetimes.
Hear! A sound from yonder there,
Some light stirring in cauldron of air.
A brushing of wings, a flutter,
Allured her to the window's shutter.
Let free a snowy dove,
Catching a net of stars above.
Caressing the wind beneath its wings,
A kind of reassurance its beating brings.
She didn't have to herself punish,
Among colossal clouds she could simply vanish.
To soar high above the boundaries many fear,
For she had no life left here.
This tiny dove came to rest,
Shaping and creating its own nest.
To perch upon arms of willow tree,
To fly was to be free.
