WHAT IS A FLIT? wrote:Shadow Flitz (Singular; Shadow Flit) are a long bodies species that have long since lost their hind legs, tail, and eyes to the power of the shadow and have replaced them with mold-able wispy appendages. these large, friendly beasts have been recently tamed to be ridden by humans and anthros alike. They have large, wide front paws, long pointed ears, and short, smooth fur. They can be naturally found in dark caves, wetlands, or thick forests. however have also been spotted in pastures while hunting. They are carnivores- meaning they are only meant to eat meat and they often prey on birds, deer, rodents, and bats.
can i just say song of the sea made me cry like a baby?? also to enter, tell me about their longest adventure. ends on the 17th.
edits: fur, ears, eyes, two faces, tail, legs. because they're a "selkie" they're one with their seal pelt.- Code: Select all

Name: Selkie [unoriginal,, ik]
Pronouns: She/her — They/them
Story:
Selkie lived in a calm watery area of Scotland. She lived a life a solitude really, she preferred to live in silence. Though, one day she had a change of heart and had came to the decision to follow the current of the river her home sat beside. Perhaps the boredom had finally gotten to her, though her hopes of adventure were beginning to drag low as the river just continued with no interesting stops on the bank. Though she continued forward, Selkie didn’t plan on giving up on this adventure despite her decreasing hopes of excitement.
After what seemed like forever, but in reality had only been a few hours, Selkie decided to take a breather and rest for a bit. She didn’t recognize where she was, but she knew she was still in Scotland. She’d decided to simply stay and sleep for the night on the bank. Though just as the sun began to reach for the horizon, Selkie was back on the water following the current. She’d managed to swipe a few fish as she floated down. Though her moment of relaxation was over when she realized she was moving down into whitewater, where rocks and fast rapids were evident. It was now to late to get away from it all as she was pulled into the thrashing water. After having been thrown against rocks and being pulled under the rapids, she finally reached a bank. Upon examination, Selkie was only left with scrapes and soon-to-be bruises. From here, she decided that she’d walk until she could find a calm spot before she slid back into the river. This certainly wasn’t what she had in mind when she wished for excitement.
After another passing day, she finally reached outside of Scotland. Selkie gave the land a longing gaze before she turned to continued her journey. Exhausted, she pushed herself to find a back to rest her aching muscles. She’d skipped last nights sleep to continue on, and hadn’t thought about what she may regret. It wasn’t long until she fell asleep, the early afternoon sun beating down on her pelt felt amazing– a great feeling to fall asleep to. Though her sleep was disrupted by a slightly annoying sound of tiny flapping wing. She titled her head towards the source of the noise, only to accidentally boop a rather small Flit. “Watch it!” The teeny creature yelped in alarm as the wet nose of Selkie briefly touched her, “I coulda sworn you were dead,” The small Flit chirped, though only to get a reply of silence and a confused expression. “Right– I’m Theo, I’m a Fairy flit!” She spoke out proudly, finally taking a moment to rest her wings and land on the bank below, “I’m Selkie,” The full-size Flit finally spoke, dipping her head in a greeting, “Wouod you happen to know where we are?” Selkie asked curiously, though Theo stayed silent for a moment, “Not exactly, I’m not from here, just traveling through...” The Fairy Flit said in reply, “I haven’t seen a local yet either.” Selkie hailed herself to her feet, Theo leaping into flight to follow after, “Me too, I’m coming from Scotland,” Selkie huffed, “What abou–” Her words were cut off as Theo landed on her nose with flattened ears, “We should travel together!” She suggested, “We could help each other! I’ll be the sky and you can be the land... or water,” Theo explained, her words were fast as she laid out the idea. Though her suggestion was only met with an awkward silence, “I suppose that could work...” Selkie sighed out the reply.
From then on, the pair got a bit of rest before the set off in the direction Selkie had been heading. Theo remained high in the sky as the moved, calling down to Selkie to watch out for rocks and rapids. The two stopped from time to time for rest and then continued, the cycle went on for a long while before Theo had an unfortunate statement.
“I can’t keep on with this forever Selkie,” Theo sighed sadly as the two rested, “Its summer and I’ve got to migrate to Fairy Flit father grounds...” She began, “We’ve got to part ways soon.” The words seem to hit Selkie hard as she simply stayed quiet, “But... I can go?” Selkie offered hopefully, “Your basically water bound Selkie, you can’t,” Theo shook her small head, “But I promise I’ll come back! And, we can do this every year!” She flew up to land on Selkie’s nose, “But if that’s what we’re gonna do, we can have one more adventure before I’ve gotta go– we have to go to the closest spot to the gathering grounds.”
The journey only took a few days, and the day she had to leave was the hardest moment of Selkie’s life, she’d promised Theo to meet her after summer in the exact spot she left– and she planned to keep it. Though despite having been left for the time being, Selkie continued to travel. And then when the time had come she’d go retrieve Theo, and then Selkie would show her all the things she’d seen on her travels. The cycle continued every year, in fact Selkie even made her home on the bank where she and Theo would meet after summer. This adventure wouldn’t ever end really, and the pair was a-okay with that.
[Scotland is where the Selkie origin began, also I don’t actually know if there’s a river that leads out places in Scotland, but if not– just act like it.]
