It was a crisp summer night, his senior summer at keldine academy, and the last dance they would ever experience together as young keldine.
He sighed, as his mother helped him tie his tie
“What’s wrong dear? Aren’t you excited? It’s the keldines academy prom!”
Alura nodded and gave off a sheepish smile, “I am excited mother, just quite nervous is all”
She smiled and nuzzled him “that’s expected dear but don’t worry you’ll gVe a great time! The dance is just a few hours off you know.”
He started tapping his back right paw anxiously, she was right. Two hours stood between him and his lovely girlfriend Daisy.
They had been together 3 months now, she seemed so excited for tonight. He was just hopping she meant everything she said. Doubt filled his mind but he tried to remain strong as he waved goodbye to his mother with his tail, flower in mouth as she finished spraying his hair with hair spray to hold its place.
7pm
It was time.
Alura approached keldine academy, all the keldines scales were glistening and glowing in the moon light.
He stood there, at the top of the crowd on the steps smiling with his rose in his mouth awaiting Daisy’s arrival. Everyone had started meeting up with their dates and going inside. Slowly, the giant crowd began to fizzle out as the raging music blared from inside the school.
7:15pm
He sat down still grinning, whisking his tail side to side, “she’d be here right? She must just be late! That’s all!”
7 keldines remained outside, each with a partner and one with a group of three laughing.
He sighed. His scales began to dim.
7:30pm
A pink and red glowing keldine came strutting down the road, his heart began to race. She’s here!!!
He stood up anxiously awaiting her to approach him at the top of the steps.
But.. wait.. something was... odd
A giant red and black keldine accompanied her, they laughed and she kissed him on the cheek as their tails intertwined..
No.. it can’t be..his gut feeling had been right after all..
7:33pm
The couple approached the stairs and daisy rolled her eyes at him “the blue freak is it? Yes move out of my way or my boyfriend will have to move you for me”
Alura dropped the rose as it fell down the steps, the black keldine stepped in front of her and growled in Aluras face “nice try whimp better luck next time, she wants a strong man to take care of her. Not a slicked freak like yourself. Lose the hairspray weirdo”
They both chuckled as the black keldine pushed past Alura.
Daisy flicked her tail as Alura tried calling out to her “do I know you?” She chuckled entering the dance with the black keldine named Crucifix.
Alura stood there, his heart broken. Tears swelled in his eyes and he couldn’t understand, they hung out every night? How could she just.. do this to him?..
He walked to the bottom of the stairs and grabbed his rose, tears streaming down his face as he hung his head low.
Suddenly, a dark black and purple keldine came running out of the dance. “AND STAY OUT YOU SCOUNDREL!! DONT EVER COME BACK!” She went pounding down the road, running so fast she didn’t even see Alura as she crashed into him.
“Ow.. watch where your!-“ Alura stopped and stared at the female keld, her eyes met his and her snarling face turned into one of pity.
“I’m sorry I didn’t see you” she started.
“My names Shadow, you?”
Alura nodded “I’m Alura”
Shadow gasped and smelled him, staring at his very dim lit scales.
“You’re the one aren’t you?”
Alura made a confused face and stared at her “I’m the one who?”
“My apologizes. The one who was cheated on and left for the trash tonight. That was you huh?”
Alura nodded “she acted like she didn’t even know me, I got her this rose and everything..”
Shadow grinned slightly, “was she pink and red with a black keld?”
Alura nodded “how would you know??”
Shadow blushed “I heard her talking about some loser who brought her a rose and waited for her and I attacked her in the middle of the dance, I was kicked out and started running. We crashed and now I’m here. Now I’m your problem”
Alura smiled, “my problem??”
Shadow laughed and snatched the rose from him and started running “catch me if you can!!” Shadow bolted down the street giggling, Alura laughed and bounded after her. Butterflies emerged from his tummy to his chest.
Was this.. love?
Bounding after her he smiled, her purple and pink markings were so beautiful. The real made her pop, and she was spicy, the spicy girls are always the most fun.
He tackled shadow to the ground and snatched the rose back, “gotcha”
Shadow blushed “I believe its me that had you.”
Alura blushed and let her stand up, she smiled “could I have this dance mister?”
Alura looked around, “but there’s no music?”
Shadow nodded and started humming
“now there is! Let’s dance!”
“But in the middle of the street?”
Shadow grabbed Alura and twirled him to her tune, he spun her around and they laughed.
Aluras heart was racing, he looked shadow in the eye “this is for you, you’re quite beautiful and I love your personality Shadow”
Shadow stared at him, “you do? No one ever likes me, I’ve always been such a loner my whole life”
Alura pushed the rose towards her “well I think you’re amazing”
Shadow blushed and took the rose “I think you are to no matter what any one else says, so will I see you again?”
Alura nodded “every night in this spot if you don’t live far”
Shadow smiled “I live right down the road! I walked to the school!”
Alura nodded “so did I. See you tomorrow”
He began walking home and shadow pranced happily with her rose
A beautiful start, to a newly found love.
