I wanted a harsh sounding name and he was giving me names that started with 'ch' or 'ca' vibes, then found Charybdis using a naming website. Turns out it means whirlpool, which I thought seemed oddly fitting. After further research (weighing it against the name Calahan) I found Charybdis was a sea monster in Greek mythology, which dwelt in the Strait of Messina. It was later rationalized as a whirlpool. I was genuinely interested in the mythology and it turns out this creature slowly tempts you into the whirlpool and represents things in your life that take you in very gradually. It also apparently lived under a rock? I thought that was funny and fitting of this character as well. A cool-sounding mythical name that also has a fitting meaning that also has a kinda funny hidden meaning if you look hard enough? Sign me up.
