Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 3
Username: sprig
Buttermilk: Evangleine
Prompt:
Evangeline trudged back to the Farmer's Market early the next morning. She had been up most of the night trying to formulate various plans on how to catch the duck, all of which included the loaf of bread the big man had given her the first day. She was so exhausted for her efforts that she had left the loaf sitting on the table, and hadn't even realized it until it was too late.

When she arrived to the Farmer's Market, she noticed most of the damage from the previous day had been restored, and people were starting to filter in to start their shopping. "Hey... You!" a voice from behind her shouted. Eva turned around quickly, to find a frail looking old woman, attempting to wave her down. "Who-- me?" Evangeline asked, walking towards the woman. "Yes - yes you. Come here. My name is Pansy and my booth has been vandalized. Someone dumped my fruits and vegetables everywhere, leaving bite marks in half and destroying the others!" Pansy began to wail. "Um, let me help you clean up," Eva said, only in an attempt to get the old woman to stop crying. Suddenly, an idea flashed into her head. "Pansy," she began, clearing her throat. "if I help you clean up and get your booth back together, do you think I can have some of the dirty fruits and vegetables that would be no good to sell, for a uh... Project I'm working on?" Pansy cocked an eyebrow in suspicion, but agreed.

After nearly an hour of cleanup duty, Evangeline had finally restored Pansy's booth to it's former glory, and collected the various tasty things she needed to replace her bread to put her duck-catching plans in action. And off she ran!

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 3
Username: Yodel
Buttermilk: Alli
Prompt:
Leaving the crop fields behind her, Alli made her way over to Daffy's booth, hoping there would be positive news regarding the recent duck-related events. Oh, how she had been worrying about that poor thing.

When she arrived, Daffodil informed her of the bird's most recent misdeeds. She gasped, followed by a burst of laughter. That silly duck, how much more trouble was it could to cause?

After finishing her conversation with Daffy, she decided to head over to the booth of the unfortunate vendor. "H-hi, sorry about what happened to your produce, that's really a shame." He simply grumbled in response. Just as Alli was turning away to find something to do, she was struck with an idea. She could totally use the produce to try and find the duck!

It was simple logic, the duck must have enjoyed the produce if he ate so much of it overnight, so why couldn't she use it to lure it back? She began to formulate a plan. What was the best way to catch the duck without spooking or harming it? A funnel trap!

After spending some time thinking out the logistics of the trap, Alli went all around the farmer's market collecting supplies, it was worth it if it worked. She spent the rest of the afternoon assembling some mesh net in a big circle, attached to wooden poles, with an opening that is tapered inward. Now all she had to do was get some of those fruits and veggies to put inside, put on the top and voila! They would get that duck in no time.

When Alli went back to the booth, the vendor didn't look any happier than he had been the first time she saw him. "Hi again," she stammered, "would it be possible to borrow some of your fruits and vegetables?" "Borrow?" "Well, not really borrow I suppose. I'm trying to catch that duck that's on the loose, you know the one that- uh, never mind. I think I could lure him into a trap." He grunted, shaking his head, "That darn duck isn't getting any more of my produce than he already has!"

After several minutes of back and forth, Alli almost gave up until she pointed out that; "Well, if you donate some of your product, and the duck gets caught, he won't be able to get any more of it after and you would save more in the long run!" After a few minutes of consideration, the bull finally gave in.

Alli remembered hearing somewhere that ducks enjoyed grapes, bananas, and peaches, so she gathered a couple of each and headed back towards the funnel trap, "Do you really need all that?" "Just trust me!"

The heifer placed a couple pieces of fruit inside the mesh circle, then laid the rest in trails going various directions all stemming from the entrance. What she hoped would happen is no matter which way the duck came from they would follow a trail into the trap and could be caught. The last step was to place some mesh on top so the duck couldn't jump out, held down with a couple of rocks. Alli stood back admiring her handy work.

Now it was just a waiting game.

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 3
username: surfingmars
buttermilk: Locty + barn
prompt:
Locty was beginning to get irritated with this duck, he couldn’t believe that it had destroyed even more booths at the market. After surveying the aftermath of the duck’s rampage he decided it was time to trap the duck, drastic times call for drastic measures after all. “hmm, it sure seems to be food driven,” he thought out loud. He then came to the realization that he could use produce from the farmers, if he could convince them to give him the food for free.

He trotted up to one of the farmers who’s booth had been muddied up. Locty offered up a small greeting then got straight to the point, “hey ma’am, I was wondering if you’d be willing to offer up a bit of food for me to use, you see I’m trying to catch the duck that’s been creating a mess out of your booths, and you see, I was thinking that a bit of food might do the trick to catch the darn thing.” The farmer stared at him for a second, then smiled, “sure sonny, I’ve seen the work you’ve been putting in to help fix up the booths the critters messed up, what type of produce do you think you’ll be needing?” Locty was surprised he got his point through so easily and said, “well ma’am, I was thinking some grapes would do the trick, I’ve heard ducks love those.” The heifer smiled and said, “let me get those for you,” and went to gather the grapes for Locty.

"Oof, this duck! Hopefully now everyone realizes how serious this is and follows the rules. I’m sorry this has been so crazy, but I’m grateful for your continuing help. Here’s another 6 sunflower seeds for each of you to recognize all of your hard work!

Maybe today we should take a bit of a rest... our traps have been set, and the fruit and veggies carefully placed. Hopefully they’ll work!

Please check the main page for updates for sunflower seeds and to check out the fourth prompt!

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 4
Username: ♔Voltaire♔
Buttermilk: Soot
Prompt:
"Looks like our food idea didn't work at all. No dice. I have to admit I am a bit upset that this duck has been able to outsmart me, but I don't expect anything less of this rascal after the stunts he's been pulling! I guess we are all just going to have to try harder this time, and figure out a better course of action so we can get this situation under wraps!

"I think it's pretty hilarious that this duck has been able to evade capture, especially with so many people trying to round him up! With the amount of people helping you search, isn't it funny how know one has really seen him yet? it's like he's wearing some invisible cape or something that keeps him from being found! I wonder what we could all do in order to lure him in- if he wasn't hungry, maybe he's thirsty?" (152 words)

    Buttermilk: Disney
    Prompt:

"Okay, this is gettin' too far. That duck better get home or he's gonna wish he never left that pond o' his! I have to admit, this is takin' longer than it usually does. I used to be able to catch the animals much faster than this, I swear. I dunno how the heck he's so good at this! Let me guess, what's his name? Houdini? I guess it's kind of funny. Ol' Disney can't keep up with Donald Duck! Y'know, the key in these sorts of situations is perseverance. A duck may be fast, but they ain't gonna last is what I like to say! My toughest job yet, but I'm not aboutta give up just yet! He's a bird, how hard can it be? Okay, maybe it's been harder than I expected. But I will not give up until he's back and quackin' in his pond. If I need help I might just call Lennon up, but it's not bad enough to call her over just yet. I want her to have fun over at the Sideshow Alley or whatever it's called. She deserves a chance to loosen up."

    Buttermilk: Pele
    Prompt:
    “Today’s Prompt (Day 4)
“Day 4 and still no sign of this duck. How did he get to be so evasive??? He can’t even fly very well! UGH! How are you handling being seemingly outsmarted by a duck? Are you growing more and more frustrated with every day the duck continues to evade capture, or are you able to laugh it off?”

Pele had been so sure their decoy would work. They'd done such a good job molding the model and setting it up to look as natural as possible. They'd even asked several poor vendors to critique their work and been told in no uncertain terms that it looked very life like. So, when they showed up to find that it had, in fact, accomplished nothing, it woke up something dark deep inside their chest. It was time to get serious. With a terrifying roar that temporarily drew every eye in the direction, they set about their spite fueled plan. They needed to work harder. They needed to make them better. (Faster. Stronger. As the song to the working montage here would've gone should their life be made into a motion picture.) Hours later (Or mere seconds, because, again, the movie of their life would totally have a montage) they had assembled their army. No less than a dozen duck decoys, made out of increasingly weird things as they ran out of materials. This would do the trick. Surely the mass gathering of vaguely duck like entities would draw the attention of the beast that plagued the market. And if not? Well, then Pele would just have to get feral, wouldn't they?

Daffy's Great Duck Hunt - Day 4 Open!

daffy’s great duck hunt - day 4
username: ptarmigan
buttermilk: buona!
prompt: buona shook her head immediately when asked if she was irritated. "it is just one silly duck, it's a little ... perplexing for the duck to continue to evade us. but not irritating, after all, this is just apart of farm life. there are bumps and hiccups along the way and if i can't laugh it off, then i'd be stressed all the time - and that's the opposite of what i want for my life living rurally. i was so confident my trap would work, though, so now i've had to rethink everything... what makes this duck so much different? is it smarter than all other ducks? faster? bigger? does it have more feathers?" she paused, shrugging and letting her tail swish against the ground. "i guess i do feel pretty dumb being outsmarted by a duck... i thought all birds were air headed. guess i was wrong. but what should we do next? what's the plan to catch this runaway?"

    Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 4
    Username: DarkestWerewolf
    Buttermilk: Aria
    Prompt:
      QUACKKKKKKKK

The screeches of a distressed bird could be heard echoing through the alley. It had once again evaded capture. It nearly took the bait but for some reason, the quicker was swift enough to barely escape the clutches of the trap. Aria, who had been chasing the duck for days now, peered from the top of the alley. She watched as the white avian frantically escaped. She groaned. She laid back down, watching the clouds move slowly across the sky.

It was almost like a sick joke that someone pulled on her. Every attemp was a failure. A chuckle can’t help but escape from her mouth. Bested by a duck. She’d never let herself live this memory down. While it was definitely frustrating, everytime she failed to catch the duck, a part of her would subconsciously laugh. It was almost as if she was being mocked by her own body.

Days of failed attempts had led her to think she’s starting to go hysterical. Now everytime the duck quacks, her brain starts to assume that it is mocking her - taunting her attempts. On the other hand, she was starting to second guess herself. Has she always been that bad at planning? Aria was puzzled. She had never encountered such a problem before and yet so many of her plans had blown up in her face.
She sighed, continuing to brainstorm about more plans to catch the quacker.

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 4
Username: mtuan,
Buttermilk: Abby
Prompt: Abby frowns in utter frustration at her lack of ability in finding the duck. She finds herself growing more and more irritable by the day and there is nothing stopping her from growing even more so from there until the duck is found. She can not figure out what exactly is keeping the duck so evasive from her and to say she is not handling it well- well, that is quite the understatement of its own. There is something- just something- about the duck that is keeping Abby's head from being clear about the situation. She just wants to find it and well- it's not working out. Some part of Abby wants to say she can laugh it off but that is so far from the truth and little white lies are easy, but not so much fat lies. Instead, the girl sighs angrily and shakes her head, pinching the bridge of her nose.
