    Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5

    Username: bluex
    Buttermilk: Elpis

Prompt: Elpis whipped her head around to look at Daffodil, eyes scanning her entire face to see if it what she said was some kind of joke. She even offered a half-hearted giggle, only to be met with a serious gaze. The grey heifer’s lip quivered and she let out a sigh. They were nowhere near done yet - that duck still wasn’t back at home. She tried to think of a new plan with all sorts of clever details, but her mind kept going blank, and she was resigned to thinking of really simple ideas. To begin with, her simple plans were terrible. Everything she thought of made her feel worse and worse about her capacity to have good ideas.... until it clicked. Elpis’ head shot up and she set off on a search for wood, paint, and assorted tools.

Daffy finally caught up with Elpis a few hours later, who was proudly dragging a wet paintbrush alongside the exterior of a castle fit for a king. Well, a king if he were the size of a duck.
“He’d never see this coming. Why would this little duck figure out what this castle was for? I’ll even add pumpkin crumbs scattered across the palace floors!” Her eyes were glittering in pride at her handiwork. This was the closest thing to a plan that Elpis could think of. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
Username: Desmond
Buttermilk: Takara
Prompt: Takara fully believed that a trap in combination with a sweep would corral the duck back to where he belonged. The trap, baited with all of the goodies that ducks like - the ruined fruits and vegetables that she'd obtained one way or the other from the farmer - would be good as a stationary port of capture, but if the duck was on the move, it'd probably be easier to corral him into a place where he wouldn't have an easy escape - and there, another, more mobile trap, could be placed. She would have to watch it, though; depending on where the duck led her, the place where the mobile trap would go would be different. So she would have to lay it on the fly.

If she could gather a team, a line of searchers behind the sweep would keep the search area contained, but she wasn't going to ask for or expect too much.

Buttermilk: Magpie
Prompt: 5
Word Count: Magpie frowned at her quietly and shook her head, "I may have had a day to think about it, but I am hardly calm." She said. "I have certainly thought things through." She said, "I know exactly what to do." She said. Magpie grinned happily, "Oh my plan is simple but absolutely devious!" She said. "Okay so you know how the bait didn't work the first time? I decided this time I will leave a trail and prepare a net, surely the duck can't resist two times in a row! It's so simple but I will hide it, the real trap will be sleeping powder in the food! The duck won't see it coming! Though if all else fails there will be a drop net too in case the first one doesn't go off. See it is fool proof!" She said, "That duck will be caught no matter what this time." She grinned, "Wait... what do you mean it's ridiculous?" She asked with a huff. "It most certainly is not!" She said.

Buttermilk: Hazel
Prompt:

Day 5 had come along and Hazel was weary. She checked the crate of fruits and veggies, finding it untouched. The heifer sighed and hung her head before pulling the cloth off entirely to let smaller critters such as squirrels come in and finish the bruised produce. Clearly, going all out to catch this duck wasn't working, Hazel thought that perhaps she could gather ideas from some of the other vendors. She asked around, talking to each one and apologizing for their losses, bouncing plans and strategies around before finally coming to the conclusion. A stake out. Hazel and a couple other vendors would spend the night at the market, sleeping on blankets under the stars and hiding behind the stalls. They would sleep in shifts, the ones left awake trying to keep an eye and an ear out for the duck who seemed to cause his chaos overnight. This bird would not go uncaught!

Day 5

    Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 4
    Username: ceance

    Buttermilk: Evangeline
Prompt: As much as Evangeline was for helping, at this point she wanted to go home and curl up with her lovely girlfriend and argue about something small once again. It was much better than standing outside like a fool, waiting for a dastard duck to come waltzing into her arms. Her plan was simple, set a trap like she had originally wanted and put some kind of lure into the trap and catch the duck. She wanted this to be simple and without everyone running around like chickens that had lost their head and, well, this seemed like the easiest route to go down.
Regardless, again, Lee was feeling her patience run thin. She wasn't necessarily irritated or anything, she just felt like she could be doing anything else right now. Either way, she would work on this trap and getting the duck food that she needs to lure the duck inside of it. Time to go back to her place and grab the cage and see if it was possible to get some food for the duck.

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
Username: BadgerBuddies
Buttermilk: Bakari
Prompt:
Bakari came strutting back over to Daffodil’s booth this morning with a confident grin. Daffy noticed that Bakari was carrying something with her, and wondered what it could possibly be.

“I placed an online order for an overnight shipment” the penguin colored heifer said, thinking she was ever so clever. “It’s a duck call. Usually hunters use it to lure ducks over to them, but during my research online, some wildlife biologists use them for their studies. It seemed to work for them, so it has to work for us!”

Daffy’s big ears flicked, and then perked up. This may be the one thing Bakari has said all week that she didn’t disagree with. “Now that…. that could actually work” said the brown and tan heifer. Suddenly, Daffy sprung up and shouted “Let’s go set up some traps and put that bad boy to work!” before running off to gather up her previously made traps.

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
Username: Elliad.
Buttermilk: Melody
Prompt:
The heifer stared at the half-eaten fruit and veg that the duck had previously munched on. “I know I need you but how?”

Melody paced back and forth, trying to figure out how to catch the duck that had been slipping her grasp. Every so often she would take a glance back at the fruit and veg as she continued her pacing. On one glance, her eyes stilled on the fabric she had previously acquired to work on a robe for herself.

“I don’t- no that’s a stupid idea. Or- no it is,” Melody mumbled to herself, as she went through plans in her head, knowing that she couldn’t keep this up forever and she would eventually have to come up with a solid plan.

“Well, it could- actually-“ Melody continued to mumble, “I could turn it into a net. Wait yes, I use the fruit and veg as bait and then pull a rope tied to the fabric and kablam, duck caught.”

Melody stopped for a moment. “It’s a stupid idea and it’s definitely not the best idea I have had but it’s simple and it could just work.”

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
Username: Pufferheart
Buttermilk: Beth
Prompt:

Beth returned once again to ask Daffy if the duck had been caught yet. Against all the odd she hoped against hope that the duck had finally been caught when she left for the night. When Daffy told her the bad news once again, Beth sighed. She was really, really tired of this duck. Not mad, just tired.

With the duck still on the loose, Beth knew she had to make the absolutely foolproof plan to catch the duck. It had to have no flaws, not even a single one. Beth thought the hardest she had thought the whole time she was looking for the stupid duck. And then the plan came to her.

The night before, Beth had actually researched a bit about ducks in a book she had looked at in a library. One of the things the book had said was what ducks like to eat.

Off Beth went in search of the perfect duck feast. Small berries, fruits, and nuts were one of the main things in the meal, as well as seeds and grain. But Beth also added one small fish, one snail, two worms, and three insects. It looked really nasty to Beth, but according to that book the duck would like it.

The meal was set up on top of some leaves over a hole that is about two and a half feet deep. The plan was that the duck would walk over to the food, and with the added weight of the duck it would collapse, and the duck would fall in. As an added bonus, the duck could snack instead of trying to climb out before Daffy goes to collect him.

After setting it all up, Beth wiped her brow and walked away to do something else, knowing that the wait was going to be the hardest part.

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
Username: Winter Shores
Buttermilk:Antheia
Prompt: Daffy sat on a stool watching the other white ducks. Antheia approached her and Daffy looked up, "Ah, there you are! I've been waiting all day," Daffy exclaimed, "Ok, we really need to catch this duck and put an end to his rampage. What is your new plan to catch the duck now that we've had a day to calm down and think things through? Will you be crafty about it, or very obvious and uncomplicated? But get crackin! There are already other moos out lookin'!" Antheia nodded her head and walked away from Daffy. Did she really have a plan to catch this daft duck. She was really starting to get annoyed by this duck but she agreed to take on this task at the beginning of the week and she would see it through. Antheia walked through the farmers market looking for any signs of the white duck. He had been such a problem for booth owners, dirtying their stands and eating the produce! Ugh why did the duck not want to be with his friends! Unless... maybe there was something different about this duck. She did not speak duck but maybe the other ones were bullies and the duck was just trying to run away from insults and get others attentions. Antheia hummed to herself, she had an idea. Instead of chasing the duck like a mean cruel moo maybe she would wait for it to come to her. Maybe the duck did not want to be caged but instead stay free. Maybe he enjoyed the free snacks that moos gave him even though he wasn't suppose too. Antheia grabbed a chair from Azi's tables, with permission of course and walked it over to the pond. She sat down and sure enough after looking up, there is was. The rouge duck. She smiled at him and he just honked and floated about. He seemed peaceful in the water and she didn't want to ruin that for him.

      Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
      Username: Morghettio
      Buttermilk: The Holy Trinity
Prompt: 5 - “Ok, we really need to catch this duck and put an end to his rampage. What is your new plan to catch the duck now that we’ve had a day to calm down and think things through? Will you be crafty about it, or very obvious and uncomplicated? Why do you choose the plan you did to catch the duck?“

Morgan did not really have much of a plan. At this point, he had not seen a lick of the duck, and that confused him: was this duck really lose? Or was this in fact someone pretending to be a duck?

Realistically, it could not be that far fetched. The buttermilk did, in fact, in the early prior days put on a duck suit. He felt silly doing it, but as they neared the end of the farmers market... it seemed so very unlikely that this duck had never been seen. All the other ducks stayed, too: so, Morgan's plan was to wait until everyone decided to go home, and then set up trail cameras that were marked with motion sensors. Whenever there was movement, it should take a photo: hopefully then he could get some images and proof of who was actually doing this... duck or not. He did hope it was a duck, though, because otherwise this could get interesting.
