Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5

Buttermilk: Elpis
Prompt: Elpis whipped her head around to look at Daffodil, eyes scanning her entire face to see if it what she said was some kind of joke. She even offered a half-hearted giggle, only to be met with a serious gaze. The grey heifer’s lip quivered and she let out a sigh. They were nowhere near done yet - that duck still wasn’t back at home. She tried to think of a new plan with all sorts of clever details, but her mind kept going blank, and she was resigned to thinking of really simple ideas. To begin with, her simple plans were terrible. Everything she thought of made her feel worse and worse about her capacity to have good ideas.... until it clicked. Elpis’ head shot up and she set off on a search for wood, paint, and assorted tools.
Daffy finally caught up with Elpis a few hours later, who was proudly dragging a wet paintbrush alongside the exterior of a castle fit for a king. Well, a king if he were the size of a duck.
“He’d never see this coming. Why would this little duck figure out what this castle was for? I’ll even add pumpkin crumbs scattered across the palace floors!” Her eyes were glittering in pride at her handiwork. This was the closest thing to a plan that Elpis could think of. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!
