daffy’s great duck hunt - day 5
username: ptarmigan
buttermilk: buona!
prompt: "okay so. here's the deal. this duck is ass. and five days ago i wasn't irritated - but now i am." the night cow had finally given into irritation. farm animals were not her speciality and she had no interest in finding this duck anymore - but due to her stubbornness and somewhat competitive nature, buona agreed to keep helping. "the only thing i know that every animal responds to is their own nature and need to reproduce. so we gotta get the runaway duck a girlfriend. that's my big plan. just lure him into a pen by leaving a lone female duck in there. think we can try that? we might have to coax him in the right direction, but i figure she'll make enough honks without needing much encouragement from us." without many other ideas floating in her head, she glanced at daffy with a hopeful glance. "so? what do you think? gotta girlfriend for mr. runaway?"

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
Username: ♔Voltaire♔
Buttermilk: Soot
Prompt:
"Well, since food didn't work, we may want to try bringing him with his family! Not like, Duolingo owl bribing, but basically just putting some of his friends out into the open in hopes he will go see them! I-I mean we could always try the Duolingo way but I like taking more friendly approaches! I genuinely think that if he sees some friends or family that we will rush over to them, where we can round them all up and get them safely back to where they belong!

We could set up some trail cameras around the market to see if we can catch him on tape first. After we do that, we can then gauge where he likes to hang out most of the time, and then set up the trap there! Set his family in the vicinity of where we saw him last and boom! We can wrangle him up and make sure he doesn't get loose again!" (161 words)

    Buttermilk: Disney
    Prompt:

"Okay. Let's get this show on the road. This is going waaay too far n' we better get him soon. I'll admit, he's really getting on my nerves at this point. I'm almost outta ideas, but ol' Disney's not giving up yet! I think we should get together a group of cows to work together n' get him under control. There's no way we're ever going to catch him if we're all runnin' around all haywire. I can def'nitely get Lennon, Chai, n' maybe Nessa if she's not busy with her booth. If y'all get some of your friends we can make this work. So basically here's the rundown: We're going to all locate the target n' form a circle around him. N' maybe hold hands. No- not like a sadistic ritual. Actually, I guess kinda. Maybe. ANYWAYS whenever he runs away from one of us we will take a step in, making the circle tighter n' therefore giving the duck less room to run around. We will keep repeatin' this until he's close enough to one of us to grab him. What do we do if they can't grab him, you say? Eh. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it."

    Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
    Username: paopu
    Buttermilk: Pele
    Prompt:
“Ok, we really need to catch this duck and put an end to his rampage. What is your new plan to catch the duck now that we’ve had a day to calm down and think things through? Will you be crafty about it, or very obvious and uncomplicated? Why do you choose the plan you did to catch the duck?”

Pele nearly spat out their tea at the first sentence. They stared at the cow who had stared this whole mess a bit blankly, trying in vain to remember the name of the One Who Lost The Duck as their brain focused instead of repressing the violently sarcastic 'noooo' that threatened to spill forth from her at that. Seriously though what did Duck Lady think they'd been doing all night? Did she just assume Pele wasn't ever bit as serious as Pele was about this. No, Pele was done playing games. This was war. Did she not see the army they had painstakingly formed overnight. "I like to think I'm very crafty," they eventually responded with a huff and a only slightly passive aggressive swish of their tail, eyes scanning over the smattering of their vaguely duck shaped soldiers. They gestured broadly, once again repressing a snide 'duh' before explaining, "No duck can resist this."

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
Username: mtuan,
Buttermilk: Abby
Prompt: Abby believes that the best way to catch the duck will likely be to be as simple as possible and to take the plan step by step. First, of course, is to bring out the food that the duck loved to eat in the first place. Afterwards, to set a trap for the duck- a bucket, a stick and some rope would do. Abby plans to tie the rope to the bucket and then prop the bucket up against the stick. She wants to put some food under the bucket then and wait for the duck to come back looking for some food. If that doesn't work on it's own, then she's hoping to bring some sort of a trail towards the bucket with some more food and hope for the best. It'll be simple, easy and hopefully won't cost much effort and still bring the duck back in this direction. She thinks an easy plan would get the job done and that there is no need to over complicate it.

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
Username: Yodel
Buttermilk: Alli
Prompt:
After taking a day to rest and rethink, it seemed everyone involved in this wild duck chase was anxious to get at it again. When Alli arrived back at the shoddy booth and pen, she noticed there were groups of cows sitting around and they seemed to be discussing something.

"Ok, we really need to catch this duck," Daffy sighed as Alli approached. "What can I do to help?" "Well, right now everyone is trying to come up with new ways to try and get that darn duck. So far there haven't been a lot of ideas, but I'm holding onto hope." "Oh! Alright, well, maybe we could discuss some ideas? Or I could run some by you?" Alli asked. "Yeah, that would work."

"I really think the attempts everyone made using food was pretty smart, he seems like a very food motivated animal. motivated enough to outsmart everyone in order to get it. Maybe we should figure out some way to try that again?" Alli suggested. "The only question now is the actual capturing method, I personally think it would be hilarious to watch cows running around with nets trying to catch him, but that may not be very efficient."

The two heifers pondered for a minute, passing ideas back and forth, "Maybe we could make a sort of deadfall trap with a cardboard box? Then, at the very least if the duck decides to run, surely someone would notice a moving box! That way we can still take advantage of his love of food," Alli giggled. "Yeah, that might work."

    Buttermilk: Aria
    Prompt:
Aria felt that the food trap was definitely the way to go. Sure t didn’t work previously but she felt that all it needs right now is some reinforcements and the duck is ready to be caught.

The alley back the was the perfect place to capture the quacker. The walls were too high for the duck to fly and it was a dead end. There was no where it could run to. In order to make sure the duck doesn’t escape from where it came from, barriers would have to be set in place. Heavy weighted items and tarps would be there to block the duck the moment it entered the alley, from there, it will panic and have no where to go but deeper into the alley.

When it gets there, 3 large traps will be lined side by side, inside each trap would be a fresh cut of watermelon. If the duck goes in, great, the trap door will close the duck in. If the duck manages to escape or refuses, long nets will be coming down from the top of the alley’s building in order to catch it or guide it into the traps.

It’s foolproof. The duck will be captured.

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
Username: Northstar.
Buttermilk: Ghost
Prompt:

Ghost is fuming, tail twitching aggressively, fists clenched. You've never seen her look so angry. She looks like an agitated wasp(perhaps it would be better to have someone else catch the duck).

It's time to get serious. She's tired of a duck outwitting her - tired of running around in circles - she's just tired of the whole entire thing.

She busts out the power tools and goes about hammering out her anger. Wood chips fly, nails clank, and drills buzz. She bangs and whacks and hits her frustration out until half a dozen little box-traps are made, complete with net-throwers... And bait. Of course she had to commandeer some of Farmer Scrooge's produce again, but he would never know. Now she has a bounty of lures - greens, blackberries, strawberries, and bits of apple and grain.

"We place the traps in several different areas," Ghost produces a sketched map of the surrounding ground. Traps are drawn throughout the marketplace - one beneath a stall, one behind a produce stand, another in mid-path. The final three are marked to be hidden in tall grasses and set with bait. "This duck has to be hungry. He hasn't raided the vegetables lately. Once he steps in the box and touches the bait, a net will release over the top and trap him."

"Then all we do is wait."

    Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
    Username: Areater
    Buttermilk: arabella
Prompt: a day to calm down? oh, no - if anything, arabella was even more riled up. she'd spent all night (she had trouble sleeping even on the best of days, so this wasn't unusual for her) trying to think of a plan to catch the darn thing! "i say we shoot it," she finally said. she instantly realized how negative that sounded, and she didn't want to horrify daffodil or make her think she was trying to kill an animal she probably cared about. "with a dart, i mean! nothing that'll hurt - just enough to make the little thing sleepy so we can scoop it up and return it to where it belongs, with the rest of the ducks." arabella might not be the best buttermilk in the world, but she wasn't evil! she knew it wasn't a particularly crafty plan, but honestly, she was tired of being outsmarted - she just wanted to win this silly little battle!

Daffy’s Great Duck Hunt - Day 5
    Username: Cactologist
    Buttermilk: Bedelia
Prompt: Bedelia sighs, shaking her head as Daffodil informs her that the duck still hasn't been caught. All her plans had failed, and the little rascal was still running rampant. Every day the market fills with cows, hiding the duck, and every night the duck wrecks havoc. If only there was a way to single out the duck... Suddenly, a thought hits Bedelia: obviously they'll have to stay in the farmer's market at night once all the cows have left and catch him in the act! It's the only time that they will have no obstacles in their way! She tells Daffodil her idea, and they create a plan. They'll leave a pan of fresh fruit on the main lane of the market and hide behind booths. When the duck goes for the food, simple enough, they'll grab him with a net! The plan is simple and straightforward, but there is no way it won't work!
