Horizon stepped outside, the stairs creaking underneath his paws.
The sky was filled with twinkling stars.
The galaxy seemed to be smiling down on Horizon as he crossed a old bridge built over a river.

The water reflected the beautiful sky.

Horizon’s old friend the moon
caught his eye as he balanced on the bridge.
It’s reflection stood out the most in the cloudy water. But it only lasted so long as the night engulfed the water and a cloud covered the moon with a blanket.
“Why do you love me so much?” The night called out to Horizon.
“Why wouldn’t I?” The young Kalon replied.
“Well, most of your kind sleeps whenever I linger. My only friends should only be the moon and the stars yet here you are.”
“Hush now night, you are making a fool of yourself. Of course he loves me as much as he loves you,” Dawn murmured. She slowly inched towards Horizon.
“Of course I do Dawn, but it is the night’s turn to explore,” Horizon replied, gently pushing Dawn away.
Horizon, lacking a skip in his step, continued on his journey through the grumbling night. Dawn and the night went back to do their own things, leaving Horizon to wade though the overgrown grasses himself.
“How are you doing Horizon?” Zenith greeted, using a stick to whack the grasses and branches out of her way. She was wearing her little rubber boots, clearly ready to explore the night such as Horizon had set out to do.
“Not very good Zenith, I am very conflicted right now,” the boy replied, rubbing his face.
“How so my friend?” the girl asked.
“Dawn and the night spoke to me earlier-“ Zenith quickly interrupted Horizon.
“Dawn shouldn’t be out!” She exclaimed and Horizon nodded in agreement.
“That’s what I told her. She never listens, I wish she was more like Dusk.” Horizon sighed. “Anyway after they left I really got to thinking, I don’t have a favorite time of day.”
Zenith furrowed her brows.
“I don’t have a favorite time of day, why should you?” She said.
“I’m what separates the times of day, that is why,” Horizon huffed.
Zenith grabbed his hand.
“Have you spoken to Day yet? She’ll help find a solution to your issue,” she yelled with a tug southwest of where the two stood.
“I do very much like Day. She is the closest thing to a mother for us,” Horizon admitted.
“Look at that, you don’t even have to pick between Dawn and the night! C’mon, before Dawn truly does arrive.”

It is Josh’s birthday and he and his coworkers are having a little party before they begin their shift.

Joe: Is everyone here?
Josh: I think so...
Bernard: What, I hear footsteps...

Everyone freezes as the door slowly opens.

Callie: Hey everyone! What is going on?
Jennifer: Who invited Callie?
Callie: Ah, it is Josh’s birthday! I see that with the large sign you have hanging up over there.
Joe: Who is Callie?
Jennifer: Ah yes, you are new here so you haven’t gotten the chance to meet her yet. She’s the boss’ daughter. She- She has a obsession with frogs.
Callie: Frogs are the cutest things, ever! You want to see one?

Callie pulled a frog out of her pocket erupting a wave of gasps.

Callie: You want to hold him birthday boy?
Josh: No I am good. Thanks though.
Callie: Oh okay. Do you want to hold him?
Joe: No, Callie, what are you doing here?
Callie: Well, my dad did send me out to chase flies to feed my frogs. Then I saw birthday balloons!

The room is filled with sighs in unison.

Callie: Do you all want to meet my frogs?

Callie takes off her hat to reveal two frogs sitting underneath of it.

Callie: Unfortunately, I only brought Liam, Jesse, and Twig with me today. I wish I knew that there was a birthday party today.

Josh: Hey Callie, I think I see a frog in the parking lot!

Callie puts her hat back on and the frog back into her pocket. She dashed back out the door to go see for herself.

He's often felt as though frogs are a fascinating, if not often overlooked, slimy little creature. Their tongues are a bizarre force of nature, like they come with in built sticky hand toys. Their croaky ribbits almost sound like their own version of purring. Their strong back legs send them bounding forward and their flat feet land with a satisfying slap. If Jurassic Park has taught him anything, their DNA could be used to recreate the dinosaurs. Not necessarily something people should do, but an interesting idea nonetheless. They're wonderful little things, full of unique quirks.

But perhaps what he likes the most about them is their singing.

Not actual singing, of course. He lives in a house by the park, and his window faces the pond. At night, when he throws open the window and leans against the frame, he can hear them singing. A melody of croaks, different tones blending together in a strange chorus. Like a froggy orchestra, as he calls it. The family of frogs at the pond treating him to a musical midnight treat. Accompanied by the dark of night, the crickets, the fireflies; all if it created a magical atmosphere.

Perhaps another odd thing to say, but he feels like the frogs have become his friends.

He's not sure anyone else listens to their singing, but when he does, it feels like they're singing just for him. He'd been neutral towards them before, but after he started sharing these moments and learning more about them, they've fast become his favorite animals. They're unique creatures already, but add in this sprinkle of musical magic, and it makes them all the more special.
