It had all fallen apart. Between the fighting (with internal and external forces) and the rock slide, the Mountain Pride was demolished. Each pride member discussed their intentions; despite Queen Hera's attempts to rally them behind her, promising to find the pride a new place to live, everyone was determining their own path moving forward, and Odysseus was stuck right in the middle.

On the one side of the matter, there was his brother, Theseus, urging for him to leave alongside him and their sister. The two had decided to stick together, relying on safety in numbers, and so both were preparing to leave with their mate and cubs. They wanted Odysseus to come with them. On the other side, there was Hera, the Queen he had served as an adviser for for years. After seeing that so many intended to leave, she'd practically urged him to go himself, insisting he shouldn't waste his time trying to stay alongside a disgraced queen such as herself.

Maybe if she'd begged him to stay, or tried to demand it, he wouldn't have. But that was not in Hera's character, and he could not bring himself to abandon the Queen in such a fashion. Though Theseus was not happy to hear it, he accepted his brother's choice, and Odysseus accompanied Hera and the other remnants of the Mountain Pride that chose to stay for various reasons. It was not an easy life, with infighting still abounding among the small group as they struggled to find somewhere to live. They were just scraping by, and though he tried not to, sometimes, he found himself wondering if things would have been easier had he gone with his brother.

What he doesn't know is that Theseus' group, while traveling, accidentally found themselves in the territory of a rather zealous pride. Angry that they would trespass in their god's land, the pride attacked, and the adults in the pride were slaughtered. When only the cubs remained, they were taken back to serve in the pride's temple so as to repent for their sin. If Odysseus had gone with them, he likely would also have been killed.

Riven was generally described as playful, amusing, carefree. Those who'd known him and his family when he was young were pleasantly surprised with how he grew up. He hadn't had the best upbringing, with his parents being unusually cruel, but as they were the then leaders, nothing could be done about it. The young Riven hadn't even seemed upset when his parents were overthrown as a kinder leader took the throne.

One friend of his had even said he smiled.

Riven had been reintegrated into the pride with open arms, and he once said he finally felt he had a family. It seemed the perfect rescue story. A oppressed cub, saved from abusive parents to become a magnificent humor filled lion.

It wasn't. A perfect rescue story that is.

Something in Riven had come loose that night when his parents were overthrown, or maybe it was even before then. A darkness and a split had occurred in the cub. No one even realized until it was too late.

The dark took over Riven one night, after another lion had refused to share his pigeon with Riven. They pulled Riven off the lion before it was too late, but every lion could tell it wasn't Riven. No, their playful friend didn't snarl like that, throw insults like that, didn't hurt his friends. Scared, the others threw him out.

Riven returned, but his friends wouldnt let him back in. Afraid of himself Riven wandered into the night, not knowing what the future held for him, only that the darkness would be there too.
