Prompt:

Duskleaf, though not overly familiar with dogs herself, had been dubbed the Jack Russell Terrier of the clan by Doeleap, who had spent some time around dogs during her time as a loner. In all honesty, Duskleaf was almost upset at the comparison - why couldn't she be some big, strong, pretty dog, that was kind and smart. It was something she couldn't quite get her mind off of. When prompted later by Duskleaf, Doeleap explained the decision.
"I mean, you don't look like one, not really, but your personality? Eerily similar." She began with a purr of amusement. "I guess it's because they're known for how they fixate on things. I was told once that Jackies have the tendency to become so focused that nothing can shift them from the task they've assigned themselves. Specifically on prey. I suppose it reminds me of you. You're so... eager to complete all your tasks that you get a single-minded focus that it honestly a little scary." Duskleap thought about it for a moment - it was true, she admitted, rather begrudgingly. She did have the tendency to hyper-fixate on a task until it was completed to a satisfactory level, be it hunting, gathering herbs, training, or even sharing tongues. It had to be completed and perfect before she could move on.
"They're smart too, Jack Russells," Doeleap continued, "especially for dogs. They figure out how to get through the tallwalker fences and hedges, and often navigate rabbit warrens too. It's not an exact comparison, but I think it fits. You're super smart, and a problem solver more than anything else. You aren't a big fighter, but you know how to figure stuff out, and make easier ways for you, and others, to do things."
"If I'm not too focused on it," Duskleaf interjected with a laugh.
"Precisely. Occasionally you miss easier ways to do things because you are so focused on minor details. You miss the bigger picture." Doeleap nodded, and spoke not cruelly, but as though she was stating facts.
"I know my faults, Doeleap, unlike some cats," Duskleaf mewed lightly, jokingly knocking her shoulder lightly into the brown tabby's.
"I know, Dusk, I know. If only Ashdawn knew that you were self aware," Doeleap responded, another purr of amusement rasping from her throat.
"Okay, okay, Jack Russells. What other qualities do we share?"
"You might be intelligent, but you're kind of an idiot, like a dog?"
"Hey!" The indigant mew from Duskleaf followed near immediately.
"In all seriousness though, you are much better than any stupid dog, but Jack Russells are loyal and protective, and I think those describe you best. You're my best friend Dusky, and I love you for that. Ashdawn might be compassionate, and Blizzardstar is brave, and Featherwish is gentle, and Rainpaw is... well... Rainpaw. But you? You're loyal, and I trust you to always have my back. Thank you for that, Dusk."
Maybe being similar to a Jack Russell isn't so bad... They almost seemed cool. If you ignored their canine nature.
"And you're also hyper, yappy, and smell like one too!" Doeleap called out quite suddenly, as she leapt into a sprint, running off ahead of the ginger and white she cat.
"Hey! I thought we were having a moment!" Duskleaf called out. "Get back here!"
"You're proving my point!" Doeleap called back. Duskleaf shook her head with a laugh and began to chase her best friend around camp.
