Euphorian Thoroughbred #297

Postby DeadlyArcana » Sun Nov 03, 2019 4:35 pm

Welcome to the Euphorian Retired Racehorse Project
Euphorian Thoroughbreds are a rare string of the Thoroughbred breed. They come from a single farm simply called “Euphoria” that has horses with mutated genes. These allow them to be able to possess any realistic coat or markings. Everything else about the sub-type is the same. Long, strong legs, a powerful hind, and great speed. Their eyes are soft and the breed is incredibly smart, if not a bit goofy. They love kids and have the rare ability to excel in any discipline. They can grow from 15hh-18hh, though usually somewhere in the middle.
The horses readopted through the Euphorian Retired Racehorse Project are looking for a new loving home and a new job. They’ve tried racing and have either retired or decided the sport wasn’t for them. Either way, they are ready for the next chapter in their life. Some of these horses will come with a little training already, and will have their new discipline already determined. Although others you’ll get to pick how they move forwards!

Show Name: ARR On Eagle's Wings
Barn Name: Dohasan
Gender: Stallion
Age: 5 years
Height: 16.2 hh
Halter: Based off of name.
Discipline: Show jumping.
Competition: They were both jumping prodigies, born and bred for the Equestrian Olympics. Both mare and stallion grew up together, very close in friendship and always training to out compete the other; it was a friendly rivalry handpicked by fate itself that would soon turn into much, much more...

Dohasan was an "oops I'm pregnant" foal, born to two of the most talented Euphorians to ever grace the North American and European show jumping circuits. The mare and stallion had often been pastured next to each other as they were so close, and under the cover of night they'd jump into each others pastures to romp, play, and chase, their owners completely unaware of their escapades. As the two Euphorians, Falcon and Kusa, grew older, their feelings for the other deepened and eventually the two became mates. Training and competitions continued on as normal after one morning they found the two in the same pasture; Kusa had not yet jumped back into hers, and so they were caught red-handed, though at the time nothing was suspected. Their owners did not find out she was carrying a foal until one competition she began refusing the highest jumps, eventually leading t the stable's forfeiture and ruining her chances for the Olympics that year. Though disappointed, when they discovered her pregnancy and deduced who was the sire, the stable buzzed with excitement for the prospect of the coming baby. It was an exciting time, and everyone began to prepare for the coming arrival.

From there, Kusa was always pastured with Falcon and no other horses; whenever he wasn't training or competing the massive stallion was by her side, always gentle and attentive to his mate and growing foal. They were inseparable, even to the point where Falcon demanded to be nearby during her vet appointments. If they forgot him, he'd jump the fence, or find a way to open his stall door and get to them, no matter what they tried. It was abnormal for a stallion to take such interest, but he was so gentle and loving, they allowed it. As her pregnancy waned though, the veterinarians started noticing abnormalities in her tests, and while it was troublesome, they didn't appear to be anything serious... Still, they kept a close watch on her, just in case.

It was a crystal clear evening that Kusa finally went into labor, and in an instant all of the stablehands and the on-site vet were ready and waiting. In the beginning, everything seemed to be going smoothly, even despite Falcon pacing fervently in the stall next to the foaling area. The owner kept a careful watch on the time, quite familiar with how a normal foaling should go, but after nearly an hour after the foal should have at least crowned, he knew something was wrong. Right as he went to say something to the vet, though, Kusa let out a horrible squeal, and the whole stable descended into chaos. In the frenzy, the vet began yelling that the foal was caught, and her contractions were causing tears to form. While they managed to save the foal with minimal injury, Kusa eventually passed away on the floor from internal bleeding. She never got to meet her colt.

Quickly the young Dohasan was whisked away to be treated and checked for further injuries, and Falcon was left to mourn the death of his mate. Over the next few days he turned bitter and ill-tempered, glaring at the young foal that looked so much like his mother. After all, it was his fault she was dead. The stablehands quickly noticed his aggression towards the tiny foal and opted to keep them separated, at least until Dohasan was older. By then, maybe they'd get along, and at least have one prodigy to teach him the ropes. The stable managed to find a broodmare who was willing to take Dohasan as her own, and he was lucky enough to grow up a mostly normal foalhood.

About the time he turned into a yearling is when things got interesting. Hoping that enough time had passed and Falcon's wounds had healed, the staff slowly began trying to introduce the two little by little. Dohasan recognized Falcon's scent almost immediately, and always showed excitement when nearby to the older male, but Falcon... his aggression had not diminished even the slightest, and wanted nothing to do with Doha. This hurt the yearling quite a bit, but he nor the staff ever truly gave up trying to pull Falcon out of his rut.

One night Doha managed to click open the lock on his stall, and casually made his way outside and over to Falcon's pasture. He stood outside the gate, trying desperately to talk to the stallion and at least try to figure out what he'd done wrong. But Falcon would not even entertain him, and finally got so angry that he charged the colt, leaping the fence and bearing down on him. Doha was totally unprepared for the attack, and by the time staff heard the commotion and came running out to help, Doha was covered in bites and blood, and was limping badly on one of his forelegs. They pulled Falcon away just in the nick of time, because much more and the owner was afraid that the massive stallion might have killed him. Doha was crushed, lying on the ground trembling with fear and pain. Even after two hours trying to coax the colt back up, he refused to move, too preoccupied with his sobbing and desperate need to figure out why he deserved to be attacked like that. Falcon, seeing what he'd done, was struck with guilt and started to realize what he'd done. That was his only son, the baby he and Kusa had looked so forward to... He took a step closer, maybe looking to apologize or somehow try and right his wrongs, but in an instant the staff grabbed his halter and forced him away, locking him up in a stall.

It took Doha almost a month to recover physically; some of the bites scarred up, and luckily the injury to his leg didn't affect his ability to eventually be a competitor. Mentally, though, Doha was far from okay; even just the sight of his sire put him into a full panic, and he found himself unable to function even with the help of a behaviorist. The last straw was when one night Falcon jumped the fence and wandered slowly towards his son's pasture, hoping to just talk or make some kind of progress, but it wasn't to be. As soon as Doha saw him coming the yearling jumped the fence and took off into the forest at full sprint, terrified that he was about to be attacked again. Falcon, unsure of what to do, chased after his son, yelling and begging him to stop, that he was going to get lost or hurt. But Falcon found himself unable to keep up with the smaller, faster Euphorian, and eventually lost him in the thick forest. Racked with sadness and even more guilt than before, he turned and trudged home slowly and laid himself down underneath one of the huge oak trees. He didn't even have enough energy to get back into his own pasture.

Doha ran for days, too terrified to stop and see if Falcon was still chasing him. He found himself in totally unfamiliar territory, hopelessly lost, starving, and badly dehydrated. He ran until he collapsed near to a trail that smelled of many different horses and creatures, hoping that someone might find him and help him. Thankfully they did; one of Amethyst's competition riders Annabelle was out taking her Euphorian mare Viper on a casual trail ride to unwind when they found him. Quickly Amethyst sent some of her S.A.R. team with a stretcher to haul the exhausted colt back to the quarantine barn, where he was treated by Niabi and nurtured for about a week. Thankfully they were able to track down his breeding stable and notify the owner; after a brief conversation, though, the owner offered to sell him to Amethyst Ridge for next to nothing. Amethyst, surprised at his sudden interest in selling and extremely curious about the colt's background, quickly accepted and met the owner to exchange payments and papers. She was excited to own such a handsome young colt, but couldn't shake that there was more to his story than what little the man had told her...

    Show Name: Son's Swan Song
    Barn Name: Aodh (pron: ayh)
    Gender: Stallion
    Age: 3 Years, 2 months
    Height: 17.1hh
    Halter: Pale Blue
    Discipline: Pleasure riding
    Competition:
If you ask him, Aodh will tell you that his childhood was normal. A lowly mare, covered by a stranger stallion in the hopes of producing a champion. He was raised alone, on the farm, and sold as soon as he was weaned.
      At least, that's his story.

Very few know the true story. He's the son of a champion, who is the son of a champion, both his parents holding high producing, extremely expensive bloodlines. The disappointing son, at that.
He was born in the highest luxury, opening his eyes upon the softest of shavings with the world's top veterinaries watching over the birth. His first few months were spent in spacious stalls and beautiful pastures, surrounded by some of the most expensive thoroughbreds the world had ever known. A foal is still a foal, however, and so he enjoyed the warm days frolicking with his half-siblings and friends, unbothered by the pressures of what the humans had in store for them. His coat was never dirty, his body never hungry, his hooves never dull. His mind was never bored, always filled with training or playing or learning. His sire was, in fact, part of his life, his calm, compassionate demeanour allowing him to play with his sons and daughters through the fences, often racing his progeny up and down the pastures. And Aodh was always the first to venture over to him, to take his challenge and initiate the races. To the colt, his father was his hero, and his best friend.
He didn't care much about being taken from his mother when he was - the food the humans served was extremely delicious, so he had absolutely zero issues with swapping from milk. He cared more about being separated from his father, now several pastures away from him.
To add to the heartbreak of being away from his closest friend, the humans began to intensify the training, something that he struggled with. Immensely.
Training sessions often ended in frustrations on all accounts, with several trainers just refusing to work with him as he grew older. He could never figure out what the issues were, either - he wanted to make the humans happy, but everything he did just seemed to be wrong.
Very quickly, Aodh slipped from a promising, gifted young colt, to an untrainable nightmare.
It didn't take long for his owners to sell him. And, from what he heard, he wasn't worth much.

And his new owners treated him as worthless. He was left in a pasture, alone, quickly losing both weight, and interest in life. He remained there for almost two years, solo, with not much to do but watch the humans come and go, and eat the sparse, dry grass. And that was where I found him. I wasn't looking for a horse of his caliber, but when I found out who he was, and where he had come from, I had to take him out of that situation.
Training is difficult, but I soon figured out that he'd never be a show horse. But I don't mind - his playful, enthusiastic energy and calm demeanor is enough for me to keep him around!

Show Name: Just Another Horse
Barn Name: Jack
Gender: Stallion
Age: 8 years
Height: 15.2hh
Halter:Teal
Discipline: Combined driving
Competition:Jack was born on a small breeding farm, that also raced a few of its up and coming horse before selling them. This farm was a very traditional place, the people on this farm did not believe in the Euphorian Thoroughbred. Unlucky for Jack they did not realize that him dam was from the Euphorian line. They breed her with there current up and coming stud.

Jack was born on a bright sunny summer day, one would say it was a perfect summer day. But contrary to the beautiful day outside the mood out side of the birthing stall was very grim. The humans had taken one look at his snow capped rump and his blue eye. And started complain that a random appaloosa stallion from the dude ranch down the road must have gotten in the field with Jack's dam. But since they could not prove this and they also wanted to get the most money form selling Jack. It was diced that they would keep his sire as the stud they had breed his mother too. And that the only reference to his dubious parentage would be he name. So he was named Just Another Horse and one of the hands called him Jack after a old mixed breed dog he used to have.

Needles to say the people on the farm took minimal interest in Jack. Only making sure to halter break him enough so they could sell him as soon as he was weaned. As soon as that happened they took him to the first available thoroughbred auction. Jack was bought by a down on his luck owner cum trainer. Who was defiantly not the best at anything he tried to do. This trainer did the best he could to train Jack while dragging the young colt form track to track. There was not much positive during all this training and moving Jack hated it all. But due to his wonderful personality he kept trying to pleas his owner. During this time at a couple of the tracks that Jack was at he saw sulky racing. He even on occasion shared barns with these horses. He looked at these well cared for dare I say loved horse. Jack saw how much praise these horse got for pulling those carts, which they seemed to love. And wanted what they had. Jack would even dream about it in his down time.

When Jack was 3 years his Owner/Trainer fell on extra hard times and as Jack had never relay done well at racing. He sold him to a local gentleman that was a famous trainer for different western disciplines. This gentleman had seen Jack and thought if he could train him up for a western discipline paired with his unique looks he would have a first rate star. This gentleman took Jack back to his ranch and began to try and find Jacks niche. First they tried reining, next was western pleasure, then gymkhana, then cutting and when these did not work they even tried to do barrel racing. And while Jack was clearly trying his hardest the gentleman could tell that his hart was not really in to any of these disciplines that he could teach. Finally the gentleman decide to contact the ERRP that he worked with some times to see if they would take Jack. Due to all the help and donations the gentleman had given they agreed to take a look at Jack's paperwork. But they did request a genetics test be done on the off chance he was a not 100% a thoroughbred. Much to everyone's surprise the test came back that he did indeed have the euphorian gene and was a thoroughbred through and through. So the ERRP agreed to take Jack and find him a forever home.

Jack spent over a year at the ERRP during that time the staff and volunteers tried every discipline that they could think off but Jack just did not seem to click with any of them. And for all that he was a stunning looking horse and a people pleaser personality. All of the adopters that had come through were afraid to get him due to the fact that he did not seem to excel at anything. Then in the fall a year after his arrival, staff from the TRE(True Elegance Barn) came to give a training seminar to the staff of ERRP about basic training for combined driving. Jack was chosen to be the demonstration horse due to his wonderful personality and patience. Jack took to the harness like he had been born to it and while he had never pulled a thing in his life. He seemed to love pulling the little cart that had been brought. Of course I diced to bring this boy home as soon as this became clear and as I heard his story I became determined that he would have a forever home with us and be showered with love.

We have had Jack for 4 years now and it defiantly seems like he has found his happy place. And unlike his show name he is not just another horse. He is our star driving horse, lover of horse cookies, chin scratches and pulling the young kids around in a small cart or sled. Jack is a one of a kind horse.
