Competition: They were both jumping prodigies, born and bred for the Equestrian Olympics. Both mare and stallion grew up together, very close in friendship and always training to out compete the other; it was a friendly rivalry handpicked by fate itself that would soon turn into much, much more...Dohasan was an "oops I'm pregnant" foal, born to two of the most talented Euphorians to ever grace the North American and European show jumping circuits. The mare and stallion had often been pastured next to each other as they were so close, and under the cover of night they'd jump into each others pastures to romp, play, and chase, their owners completely unaware of their escapades. As the two Euphorians, Falcon and Kusa, grew older, their feelings for the other deepened and eventually the two became mates. Training and competitions continued on as normal after one morning they found the two in the same pasture; Kusa had not yet jumped back into hers, and so they were caught red-handed, though at the time nothing was suspected. Their owners did not find out she was carrying a foal until one competition she began refusing the highest jumps, eventually leading t the stable's forfeiture and ruining her chances for the Olympics that year. Though disappointed, when they discovered her pregnancy and deduced who was the sire, the stable buzzed with excitement for the prospect of the coming baby. It was an exciting time, and everyone began to prepare for the coming arrival.
From there, Kusa was always pastured with Falcon and no other horses; whenever he wasn't training or competing the massive stallion was by her side, always gentle and attentive to his mate and growing foal. They were inseparable, even to the point where Falcon demanded to be nearby during her vet appointments. If they forgot him, he'd jump the fence, or find a way to open his stall door and get to them, no matter what they tried. It was abnormal for a stallion to take such interest, but he was so gentle and loving, they allowed it. As her pregnancy waned though, the veterinarians started noticing abnormalities in her tests, and while it was troublesome, they didn't appear to be anything serious... Still, they kept a close watch on her, just in case.
It was a crystal clear evening that Kusa finally went into labor, and in an instant all of the stablehands and the on-site vet were ready and waiting. In the beginning, everything seemed to be going smoothly, even despite Falcon pacing fervently in the stall next to the foaling area. The owner kept a careful watch on the time, quite familiar with how a normal foaling should go, but after nearly an hour after the foal
should have at least crowned, he knew something was wrong. Right as he went to say something to the vet, though, Kusa let out a horrible squeal, and the whole stable descended into chaos. In the frenzy, the vet began yelling that the foal was caught, and her contractions were causing tears to form. While they managed to save the foal with minimal injury, Kusa eventually passed away on the floor from internal bleeding. She never got to meet her colt.
Quickly the young Dohasan was whisked away to be treated and checked for further injuries, and Falcon was left to mourn the death of his mate. Over the next few days he turned bitter and ill-tempered, glaring at the young foal that looked so much like his mother. After all, it was his fault she was dead. The stablehands quickly noticed his aggression towards the tiny foal and opted to keep them separated, at least until Dohasan was older. By then, maybe they'd get along, and at least have one prodigy to teach him the ropes. The stable managed to find a broodmare who was willing to take Dohasan as her own, and he was lucky enough to grow up a mostly normal foalhood.
About the time he turned into a yearling is when things got interesting. Hoping that enough time had passed and Falcon's wounds had healed, the staff slowly began trying to introduce the two little by little. Dohasan recognized Falcon's scent almost immediately, and always showed excitement when nearby to the older male, but Falcon... his aggression had not diminished even the slightest, and wanted nothing to do with Doha. This hurt the yearling quite a bit, but he nor the staff ever truly gave up trying to pull Falcon out of his rut.
One night Doha managed to click open the lock on his stall, and casually made his way outside and over to Falcon's pasture. He stood outside the gate, trying desperately to talk to the stallion and at least try to figure out what he'd done wrong. But Falcon would not even entertain him, and finally got so angry that he charged the colt, leaping the fence and bearing down on him. Doha was totally unprepared for the attack, and by the time staff heard the commotion and came running out to help, Doha was covered in bites and blood, and was limping badly on one of his forelegs. They pulled Falcon away just in the nick of time, because much more and the owner was afraid that the massive stallion might have killed him. Doha was crushed, lying on the ground trembling with fear and pain. Even after two hours trying to coax the colt back up, he refused to move, too preoccupied with his sobbing and desperate need to figure out why he deserved to be attacked like that. Falcon, seeing what he'd done, was struck with guilt and started to realize what he'd done. That was his only son, the baby he and Kusa had looked so forward to... He took a step closer, maybe looking to apologize or somehow try and right his wrongs, but in an instant the staff grabbed his halter and forced him away, locking him up in a stall.
It took Doha almost a month to recover physically; some of the bites scarred up, and luckily the injury to his leg didn't affect his ability to eventually be a competitor. Mentally, though, Doha was far from okay; even just the sight of his sire put him into a full panic, and he found himself unable to function even with the help of a behaviorist. The last straw was when one night Falcon jumped the fence and wandered slowly towards his son's pasture, hoping to just talk or make some kind of progress, but it wasn't to be. As soon as Doha saw him coming the yearling jumped the fence and took off into the forest at full sprint, terrified that he was about to be attacked again. Falcon, unsure of what to do, chased after his son, yelling and begging him to stop, that he was going to get lost or hurt. But Falcon found himself unable to keep up with the smaller, faster Euphorian, and eventually lost him in the thick forest. Racked with sadness and even more guilt than before, he turned and trudged home slowly and laid himself down underneath one of the huge oak trees. He didn't even have enough energy to get back into his own pasture.
Doha ran for days, too terrified to stop and see if Falcon was still chasing him. He found himself in totally unfamiliar territory, hopelessly lost, starving, and badly dehydrated. He ran until he collapsed near to a trail that smelled of many different horses and creatures, hoping that someone might find him and help him. Thankfully they did; one of Amethyst's competition riders Annabelle was out taking her Euphorian mare Viper on a casual trail ride to unwind when they found him. Quickly Amethyst sent some of her S.A.R. team with a stretcher to haul the exhausted colt back to the quarantine barn, where he was treated by Niabi and nurtured for about a week. Thankfully they were able to track down his breeding stable and notify the owner; after a brief conversation, though, the owner offered to sell him to Amethyst Ridge for next to nothing. Amethyst, surprised at his sudden interest in selling and extremely curious about the colt's background, quickly accepted and met the owner to exchange payments and papers. She was excited to own such a handsome young colt, but couldn't shake that there was more to his story than what little the man had told her...
