Oh no, this lion is sick again! "Dawa, you have got to stop doing this to me," Mzatamo sighed as he looked at the lioness curled up in the nest in his den.
"I'm sorry," she apologized, shivering, and the healer's harsh gaze relaxed.
"No, it's not your fault. It just worries me to see you in here so frequently." Mzatamo leaned his head against Dawa's, and the pink lioness shivered.
"I'm really c-cold, Mzatamo. Is there....there anything to help me warm up?"
He shook his head. "Not right now. Besides, you're burning up. You definitely have a fever. I'm going to need to keep you in here for a while till it dies down."
Dawa's ears drooped. "I knew I should've just toughed it out." She pouted, staring down at her paws.
Mzatamo resisted the urge to snap at her, knowing she was miserable enough already. "Don't say that. If you worked yourself too hard, this could have been a much more serious situation. Luckily for us, it's just a minor fever. Hopefully you won't suffer anything worse when winter fully comes around; your thin fur is a real disadvantage during this time of year."
As he turned to check through his current herb supplies, having already given Dawa some medicine to take previously, she called out, "W-wait!"
"Is something the matter?"
"Please...please don't leave." The sad looks in her eyes could melt even Mzatamo's somewhat jaded heart. Reluctantly, he laid down near her nest. "Thank you, Mzatamo."
He smiled. "No need to thank me, Dawa. This is my job."
The shivering lioness' breathing finally steadied to an even pace, alerting Mzatamo to the fact that she had drifted off to sleep.
Good. She could use the rest. She's pushing herself too hard, especially in these conditions. I'll have to talk to Nasaba about this. However, despite the fact that was now resting, Mzatamo made no move to leave his spot by her bed. A few minutes of rest couldn't hurt, and he ought to be near the patient just in case. Besides, Dawa always got very clingy with her pridemates when she got sick; she tended to get anxious when left on her own for too long. He didn't want to have to deal with that whenever she woke up, because she would freak out if he wasn't within sight of her. No, he was perfectly content to lay there and keep her company.
After all, it was his job.
