When Oreo was a foal his previous master had many young visitors who came to take care of his horses and sometime the kids got to go on rides with their favorite horse. For oreo, his kid was a girl named shiloh. Shiloh came every week end to oreo's stall and on the days she wasnt too busy they would go out to the apple tree and shiloh would stroke oreo's soft pelt and read him the foot book. Shiloh even showed him the pictures with all the pretty colors. Although Oreo didnt understand all the strange words he knew one thing. Its important to put one foot, or in his case hoof, in front of the other to go forward. Now Oreo can keep pace one command.

Before he arrived at his current and forever home, he had a small human companion who would come out every morning, feed and water him, brush him, and sit down in the stall with him, reading Stellaluna, a story of a baby bat who had lost her mother by an owl, before she had learned to fly and was reunited with her by the end of the story.
Everyday, she read it to him, his head in her lap, the girl child stroking his forelock. He was sure it was the little girls favorite, and she was his favorite, so it soon became his. He had heard it more than a thousand times, but it was always like the first time whenever she read it to him. And now he is no longer with her, it's like his own piece of her ingrained into his heart forever.
