Euphorian Thoroughbred #122

Postby gяεч » Sat Sep 14, 2019 7:47 am

Welcome to the Euphorian Retired Racehorse Project
Euphorian Thoroughbreds are a rare string of the Thoroughbred breed. They come from a single farm simply called “Euphoria” that has horses with mutated genes. These allow them to be able to possess any realistic coat or markings. Everything else about the sub-type is the same. Long, strong legs, a powerful hind, and great speed. Their eyes are soft and the breed is incredibly smart, if not a bit goofy. They love kids and have the rare ability to excel in any discipline. They can grow from 15hh-18hh, though usually somewhere in the middle.
The horses readopted through the Euphorian Retired Racehorse Project are looking for a new loving home and a new job. They’ve tried racing and have either retired or decided the sport wasn’t for them. Either way, they are ready for the next chapter in their life. Some of these horses will come with a little training already, and will have their new discipline already determined. Although others you’ll get to pick how they move forwards!

Show Name: Baby Blues
Barn Name: Chance
Age: 3 years
Discipline: Show Jumping
Halter: Black
Competition: Chance's fear is very common in a lot of horses. The reason for this fear however is abuse. Chance is fatally terrified of water, especially rushing and moving water, such as rivers or streams. He had always been terrified of water, but his former owner didn't help with it at all. When his former owner would take him for trail rides, a river was part of the route. Chance didn't like the feeling of the cold water rushing past his hooves and drenching his legs. He would back up at first, keeping in mind that his owner was on his back and he didn't want to hurt him. It wasn't until his owner would scold and whip him that Chance would buck and rear, trying to remove the rider from his back for his own good. No matter how much Chance made it clear that the water made him uncomfortable, his owner would relentlessly and continuously push him. Eventually, Chance would give in and hurry into and out of the river because he was tired of the abuse, but each time he would find the water more and more threatening and menacing. Chance is still has a fear towards the water, but he is currently being rehabilitated, and is slowly starting to trust the water more and more, along with his new rider.

[psa: this in no way is or would be an accurate representation of the racing industry, this is just merely for the story.]

      word count: 1048

Hepaestus’s has always found trouble in placing his trust in humans, or even anything in general - the issue originated from the conditions of his previous home where he was worked to his limits, driven straight to the dirt.

He was first sent to a training facility specialised in developing his skills to ready him for the racetracks. What he didn’t expect, however, was the nature of the home that he would first be sent to. Being a young colt with no experience with the outside world, he had taken a thin layer of sawdust in a terribly cramped stall as the normality, with a shortage of hay that always failed to cease his hunger.

When Hepaestus first arrived, he was first greeted by a young man - green as he was, who the stallion slowly learnt that he was the groom - who had a distant and vast look in his eyes as if he couldn’t give a care in the world for the job he had signed himself for, treated the youngling roughly and lead with a tensed hand, giving not the slightest bit of freedom, resulting in Hepaestus’s inability to move his head freely whether in bit or in halter. To make matters worse, the bit he was forced to use was much different than the gentle ones that the training facility had implemented - this one dug into the corners of his mouth and compressed his tongue far too much, and whenever he would shake his head impatiently due to the discomfort and pain, he was met with a sharp whip that, if used with enough force, left open wounds across his skin.

The stallion had never met a more ill-mannered horse anywhere else than when he first set hoof on the racetracks, he was forced to be near these horses - who would nip and buck whenever he came too close, and the young stallion did not understand why they would behave this way and had learnt to shy away. At first, he would fight back against being lead into the pen in hopes that his handler would understand and leave him to his trailer, but soon learnt the hard way that standing his ground or rearing from him would result in his rider - a ruthless man - to whip him mercilessly. Most of the times his injuries from the tracks were not tended to, leading to major discomfort that deprived him of the ability to rest before being led out and raced again, regardless of his physical conditions.

He soon learnt that it was all for the money, the owner of the barn did not care, they never did.

Over time, Hapeastus’s resolve hardens, turning him into a rather hostile and unwelcoming horse. By the age of five, he was known as the toughest stallion to ‘domimate’ in the whole of the barn, and this only made his owner more determined in handling him, he wanted to see the stallion break, to give in and accept defeat, it was the only way that would make him leave the stallion alone. Whenever Hapaestus would hear someone approaching, whether be it something as innocent as passing by his stall or coming over to lead him out of the miserable stall he called home, he would press his ears to his neck and buck as hard as he could, roaring with fear and anger, and when he was finally tired, he would be led forcefully with an even harsher hand a horse could ever have, and raced twice as hard as before.

Not long after, Hapaestus, from a young and beautifully muscled horse, had been driven down into a dangerously lean and frail stallion, his coat hung tightly around his bones and his limbs painfully thin. His energy was constantly spent with not enough food to fuel his system, his stall a place of filth and only allowing the stallion to stand in one position and leaving no room for him to pace or lie down comfortably. It was like being inside of a slaughterhouse - he would see many other beautiful horses come and go, driven to their last breath before being replaced by a younger and fresher youngling.

When Hapaestus was finally too tired to return to the racetracks, he was put up for sale where another family decided to take him in. At the moment that he was led out of his trailer - for the first time he experienced something other than a harsh hand and taut head, he was greeted with kindness, though at which he attempted to snap at the girl’s hand; a young and gentle faced maiden who showed no fear, who even offered to take him back into his very own stall - a spacious and well-bedded space with enough privacy from other horses. And without a doubt, Hapaestus put up a fight against being led.

Through the months, after being exposed to the other side of the world that his younger days had been deprived of, his mannerisms had slowly dwindled down to just being ill-mannered and generally distrusting of strangers. It had, unfortunately, became a part of his personality that his new owners found impossible to rid of, a self-defense mechanism that his subconscious instils to protect himself from the unknown. He would often find trouble in the groom leading him away from the four walls that quickly became his only comfort zone, though, not fighting back as much as before with a mere unwilling tug of the lead, and Hapaestus was relieved to find that the bit was gentle and freedom giving, with an abundance of fresh hay and stall awaiting him after a day of training.

Since leaving his past behind and spending years in his new home, he was trained in dressage, and he finds that he was becoming fond of the maiden whom he had first met since his arrival - she would always come into the barn and sing to him, sometimes to talk and go on rambling. Gradually, Hapaestus had trusted her enough for her to come into the stall and plant a light kiss on his muzzle as goodnight, he knew that she meant him no harm, and there was no one else he would rather trust.
