Name: Magma
Tell me about a great journey they've been on:
Every year, Magma's guild goes to the annual Butterflit festival, miles upon miles away. He heard of many amazing stories of the festival, but he has never been able to see them for himself. After all, he doesn't have wings like the rest of the members of the guild. It would be crazy to consider trying to go; the entire pack flies there. Why should they have to cancel the holiday just because of his mutations? Little do they know... Magma's a pretty crazy guy.
I wake up at the crack of dawn. I practically rip off my leaf blanket, nearly exploding with excitement. I hear some snoring to my right; of course, my siblings are still asleep.
"Get up you snoozeballs! We have to leave before mom or dad notices." I walk over to Lana's shroom bed and tug on her blanket. She stirs a bit but doesn't acknowledge me. "Today's the Butterflit festival! Aren't you going to help me?" I ask. Lana's eyes open and she frantically looks around the room.
"D'oh! How could I have forgotten?" she shrieks. Her yell wakes their brother Avok up.
"Calm down. Let's just grab the stuff and sneak out the back hole," Avok says, rubbing his eyes sleepily. I walk over to the little nook in the wall where we hid our stuff. I grab the large leaf in my 2 front hands and walk out of our tree onto the grass. Lana and Avok follow.
I pass the leaf to Lana and she spreads it out onto the ground.
"Get on it and let's go. Quickly," she says. I lie down on it and my siblings pick up either side of the leaf with their front hands. We had already tested everything out the night before and it seemed fine.
"Ready for takeoff, Magma?" Avok joked, smirking at me.
"You got it cap," I said, relaxing and making myself at home.
With a tremendous amount of effort, they get me off the ground and start flying to where they think the festival site is.
It's going to be a long journey.
It has been a couple of hours and I feel ready to pass out. Shouldn't we be there by now? I fret.
"Hey, Avok," I grasp his attention. "Don't you think we should've passed the giant oak tree that marks halfway by now? Usually, it takes a lot less time than this."
He snorts and shrugs. "We're fine, don't worry about it too much, Lana."
Eventually, as the hours passed by, everyone started to get more worried. The sun had started to set and Avok called for a time out. We touched down in a dark forest, using the foliage as a mat to rest on.
"So, what's our game plan?" Avok asks.
"I think we should make camp here," I suggest. "It would be logical since the moon is about to come out. It would be too dark for us to navigate anywhere; we have to wait until sunrise."
"I second that," Magma says.
"Alright then. Let's split up and find materials to make a base camp," Avok declares. We each go in different directions.
I'm not too sure about this... what if... what if we get lost?
I decide on looking for thin twigs. After all, a tipi needs a foundation. I am forced to go deeper into the woods because the site where our mat was didn't have any twigs around. As the forest gets denser and the world gets darker, I start to become paranoid. I have never been outside this late before; let alone in a forest as well. I hear many foreign noises, such as buzzing and rustling. "Don't worry Magma, you've got this," I mutter, in a weak attempt to amp myself up. An animal must've heard me because suddenly I hear the rustling get closer. I drop the few twigs I have and bolt back in the direction I came from, but I trip on a root and make a huge mess. I must've been loud as well; the creature is right behind me. I can feel its hot breath beating around me. I turn around very slowly. I see its face and scream. It is a horrifying thing; huge jaws and razor-sharp teeth, a raggedly thin body that seems rabid. It lunges at me, snapping its teeth in my face. With a split second to think, I run right under it. In an attempt to follow me, the scraggly creature almost tramples me, its paw just a couple centimetres away from squashing me. I run like never before, adrenaline pumping through my veins.
"Lana! Avok!!" I yell, desperately trying to get back to them. I hear a faint cry of my name and I sprint towards there. As I near the site, the screams of my name get louder. All I can see is the unmistakable glow of a fellow lava caterpillar before the world becomes dark.
"Magma, wake up! Wake up," I hear. Lana is sobbing in despair and Avok is towering over me anxiously.
"I... I'm here." I say weakly, my voice raspy.
"Magma! Thank god, I thought you were dead..." I sit up and Lana runs over to me, brushing away tears from her face hastily.
"Oh my god. He's alive." Avok prods me. "What the hell happened?"
"I almost got eaten alive by a thing," I say slowly. Just by saying it, I start to have flashbacks of what had happened the night before. My throat starts to close up and I start twitching in fear. Immediately, Lana is crying again and trying to help me.
"I-I'm alright. I'm just a little shaken up, is all," I say, trying to comfort my siblings.
"Maybe we should just go home. We can't stay here," Avok decides. Lana nods quickly in agreement, the leaf blanket already in her hands. She spreads it out onto the forest floor and we assume our positions like before. All too soon, we are up in the air and on our way home.
Once the maple tree my family calls home is in sight, the pent up emotions I had been keeping in my head were too much to bear.
"Hey, guys?" I say, trying to catch their attention.
"What is it?" Lana replies.
"Yeah?" Avok says.
"I-I'm sorry for all the trouble I caused. I should've just stayed home this year. I guess I'll never be able to experience a Butterflit festival," I say, bordering on tears. A moment of silence wafts over us, and I am already assuming that my siblings will forever hold a grudge on me when Avok says cheekily,
"It's fine, dude. There's always next year, right?" Lana giggles and I almost fall out of the blanket in shock.
"What? What are you talking about?" I ask.
"Well, while you were taking one of your many naps, Lana and I discussed some things. We're down to try again next year if you're up for it."
"Really? That'd be.. amazing. Thank you guys so much!" I am giddy with excitement.
"No problem," Lana says, smiling.
We touch down onto the grass near our house and sneak in through the back hole. We have barely enough time to stuff the leaf blanket into the wall when our parents come bursting through the front entrance, furious.
"YOU MUST EXPLAIN YOURSELVES, YOUNG CHILDREN. WHERE WERE YOU?" our mom yells.
It's going to be one hell of a story to tell. (1,250 words)
