Bowlcats - #100

This Bowlcat is up for adoption. It may not be adopted as a leader.

We are at 100?? What?? I am so happy that my weird idea of putting bowls on cat faces was good enough to get us to 100! It has been exactly 3 months from when Bowlcats opened, but the wait was worth it! Here's a munchkin!! I tried to draw it to standard, though I'm not sure if I succeeded or not. After a little research, I found that only heterozygous munchkins exist (they can't live with two of the same gene), meaning the gene must be dominant. And, not only that, but:

This Bowlcat has a small chance at passing its special trait to kittens.

The bowl is above the paw reference. Once the comp ends, i'll make a reference under this one with the bowl on the face.

There are two parts of the prompt! First, design this cat their bowl facepaint! Second, in the form of a story, answer this:
This cat is not able to survive well due to its short legs. For example, it can not jump well and therefore cannot hunt like a normal cat. How do they feel about this, and how do they feel about being cared for by other Bowlcats? Why do they feel this way, and how do they deal with these things?
You can add as many extras and pretty up as much as you want. There is no word limit.

Prompt: It was a shivering day in the Whispering Woods territory, and the younger cats were preparing to leave on a hunting expedition. The eldest of the group was only 13 moons old, but somewhat mature for his age, and Caligo had entrusted him with this responsibility because all of the older hunters were busy tending to their own responsibilities, and also because she had wanted to challenge his leadership skills. This was during the winter, and although snow had not yet blanketed the forest floor, ground prey had all but disappeared from the roots, and only a few scrawny birds were chirping up high in the trees. The colony had enough food stored up for the next half-moon, but they weren't anxious to run low, especially with the cold season nearing it's peak. Before heading out, the party of youngsters stopped by Caligo's den to inform her that they were on the leave.

"We'll be sure to catch enough prey for the whole colony while we're out!" The eldest member meowed to her with pride. He felt very honored to be leading a patrol at such a young age, and was adamant that he would not let his leader down.

"Be careful out there, and don't let the little ones stray too far," She replied grimly.

"We're not little!" A chorus of voices protested from within the clump of fluffed pelts and sparkling eyes.

Caligo laughed under her breath before regaining her calm and collected air, "Of course not. Now go on, you should be hunting, not standing around talking to me."

With a rustling of pelts and pattering of paws, they padded hastily out of clearing, ready to begin the hunt.

"See you later!" they mewed before disappearing through a clump of bushes and underbrush.

Before long, they had made their way into the heart of the forest, where prey was most likely to be hiding within the roots of the towering oaks. Dead leaves crunched under their paws, and the youngster's chattering grew quieter as they focused on detecting prey, their ears pricked and mouths open. Among the youngest in the group was Hope, who crawled silently behind the others, her eyes darting nervously from side to side. Suddenly, a mouse darted at the edge of her vision. She instinctively crouched down and began to stalk the creature. The mouse sat down near a hole in the ground, its eyes scanning the surrounding area for predators. Hope's heart began to pound with the anticipation of the kill. She was just getting ready to pounce when a crow squaked in the distance, causing the mouse to dart straight into the burrow it was next to. Hope pounced immediately in an attempt to thwart it, but her short legs could not reach far enough into the hole.

"I can't go back empty-pawed!" she cried with disdain. Sulking, she crept back to the clearing they began in, hoping to find a thrush or two pecking at the ground. However, before she could make her way back, an ear-splitting yowl of rage pierced the air. She bounded to the place where the sound was coming from, and saw it was one of her hot-headed patrol-mates. She crept up behind him and whispered,

"Shut your over-sized maw, you'll scare away all the prey from here to the highlands!"

The other cat jumped with surprise before replying, "Sorry, it's just, I'm chasing this huge rabbit, and it keeps stopping in areas of short grass. So everytime I try to get close, it sees me and runs!"

Hope's first instinct was to scold him for being so foolish, but remembering what had happened with her mouse, she held her tongue.

"You're not going to be able to catch it that way," She told him, causing his shoulders to droop in defeat. "But I can," she continued.

"So you came here just to steal my catch, did you?" The cat snorted in frustration.

"No, only to help you," Hope replied before dropping down low on her haunches. She sniffed the air, mouth slightly open, and picked up the scent of the elusive hare. Following the trail, she soon spotted the creature nibbling at a patch of daisies. Sure enough, it was sitting on a stretch of shorter grass, maybe a quarter tail-length high. No other cat could have stayed out of sight there, and Whispering Woods cats weren't built for sprinting, so she could see why the hunter had been so enraged. However, with her legs being so short, she could crouch lower than any other colony cat, and was able to stay hidden among the low stems. Her paw-pads touched the ground silently, while her nose fixated on the scent of the rabbit. When she was within pouncing distance, she crouched as low as possible, putting her weight on her back feet. She sprang forward in an instant, and the creature barely had time to glance upwards before she was upon it. It thrashed violently beneath her grip, but, remembering her training, she delivered the killing blow before it could throw her off.

Hope extracted her claws from the limp body, and her pounding heart filled with pride as she ran her paw over her kill. She carried the thing all the way back to camp, where the rest of the patrol was waiting for her. They all swarmed around her in a frenzy, pelts brushing hers and whispering congratulations while she recounted the story of her hunt. Suddenly, Caligo sprang to the top of a large rock, and called the clan together.

"I would like everyone to acknowledge Hope's achievement, and I would also like to make an important announcement. Today New Hope Dawning has shown us courage, perseverance, and strength, and I believe she is ready to become a full member of the Whispering Woods clan. Hope will deliver her kill to the nursery, where the nursery elder will divide it up between the queens and their kits. Moreover, I will consult the elders tonight about painting Hope her very own bowl, and it shall be bestowed upon her within the next quarter moon."

Hope's parents beamed with satisfaction, and her closest friends gave their sincere congratulations. Even the cat who had originally been hunting the rabbit gave her a grudging compliment. On her way to the nursery, she pondered how she had almost given up when she had lost that mouse. If she hadn't her the cries of her patrol-mate, she would never have caught that rabbit, and might not have received her bowl for many more moons. After she delivered the fresh kill, she ran up to the sulking tom and gave him a lick.

"Thank you so much, I couldn't have done this without you," She whispered to him. He looked up at her in surprise, and a grin began to spread across his muzzle.

"I may not have played the lead role, but I'm happy I was able to help you achieve something important" He replied. The tension between them disappeared like the darkness before a light, and they shared tongues for the rest of the evening.

Although she once thought of her unique genes as a disability, now Hope sees them as a strength. She may not be able to do things in quite the same way as her fellow bowlcats, but that doesn't keep her from living the best life she can, with or without the long legs of her colony.
