Colony: The Lost StarsPrompt:xxxxxCream Flight padded beside Flame Flight. They were both in the group Echoing Wings, though she still felt uncomfortable within the colony. She wasn’t born in The Lost Stars and had merely stumbled upon it with her brother one day. The Supernova, named Copper Sight, had claimed there was a falling star that night. Both Cream and Flame knew this wasn’t true, though they both kept silent.
“Should we hunt?” Flame had asked earlier in the day, and Cream had agreed.
xxxxxBoth cats lowered into a quiet stalk when they neared the lake and the scent of prey washed over their noses. Cream hunted very rarely, because she couldn’t do so very well, though this time she was determined to catch something. Flame whispered a few tips to her and nodded at a bird that was hunting for worms. Then, they both circled the bird. At Flame’s signal, Cream leapt forward. The bird let out a shriek of alarm and flapped upward, dodging Cream’s claws. Flame jumped and caught the bird while Cream hit the grass, her claws empty. Killing the bird, Flame looked up at Cream.
“When you jump for the bird, don’t aim for where it is. Aim for where it’s going to be, which is up.” He said, and the calico nodded.
xxxxxThey tried the hunt again after Flame hid the bird. This time, they crept up on the squirrel. Cream prepared to leap and then leapt as high as she could, to intercept the squirrel. But to her surprise, the squirrel darted away from her paws and up the nearest tree. Landing with her claws empty once again, she sighed. Flame gave the calico an irritated look which could not be seen through either cat’s bowl. “Cream, squirrels go for trees, not the air.” She said, and Cream nodded, disappointed.
xxxxxIn a final attempt to hunt, the siblings circled a mouse. Then, Flame gave the signal. Cream burst out of the undergrowth and flew into the air. The mouse began to run, so Cream darted for the tree ahead of it. She was confused when the mouse ran not to the tree, but into a hole in the ground.
“Cream,” Flame said. “For one, mice don’t fly. Nor do squirrels. Also, they head for their home, which is not in the tree.” He continued. Then, with a sigh, he added; “Maybe you should train with the Tauri for a while.”
Cream bowed her head sadly. “Yea, maybe I should.”
